Windows. Viruses. Laptops. Internet. Office. Utilities. Drivers

A wave of requests to enter Xiaomi's EDL mode swept across the Internet. Just recently this seemed like a no-brainer, but times have changed. I decided to play around with my Redmi 4 Pro and see if everything is really that complicated. I recorded everything in screenshots to help you. But before that, I tried the old ways of turning it on and this is what happened.

Until recently, Download (edl) mode was a priority when changing firmware on Xiaomi phones. With the release of MIUI 8.1 everything went to pieces. The company has closed easy access to low-level firmware, which was used for variants with a locked bootloader. Simply put, without permission to unlock the bootloader, which can only be obtained from the manufacturer, changes to the OS have become conditionally impossible.

You understand why there is such a reservation. Because solutions to this situation were immediately found and made public. Firmware is now also possible on a locked bootloader; for this, the notorious EDL mode will come to our aid. The methods of entering it have changed and become more complicated, however, they exist and work. This is what we will talk about later.

The fact is that the phone is defined not as a Xiaomi product, but as a Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008. And if so, then you can do whatever you want with it. Format partitions, change system files, like the bootloader itself. This is what is used in practice by those who do not want to send requests to their Chinese comrades and officially unlock the bootloader, without fear of getting something that is completely different from a phone as a result of their actions. Yes, gentlemen, it is quite possible to destroy a smartphone and turn it into a brick, and there are plenty of examples of this.

I note that the procedure for unlocking requests has been simplified, as has the issuance of permits itself. But the owner is a gentleman. If you are confident in your abilities, then use this mode.

Putting Xiaomi into EDL mode

First, let's look at those instructions that don't work. This will save you time and money.

What can I say. Aliexpress still sells these DIY cords, but they are completely useless.

Let's move on to the working method that I tested on Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro with the latest stable global firmware.

Putting the Xiaomi phone into EDL mode was not that difficult.

  1. Download QDLoaderHS-USBDriver and install it on your computer.
  2. We do the same with ADB and mi pc suite. We have all the necessary tools and drivers, it’s time to get started.
  3. With the phone turned off, hold down the volume and power. We wait for the hare and get into fastboot.
  4. We connect the phone to the computer, it will be detected as an Android device.
  5. We unpack the contents of the ADB archive to the address C:/adb.
  6. We launch the command line with the key combination WIN + R, write cmd.
  7. We write fastbootdevices in the window. This way we check the device connected by us. It should appear.

A necessary note. For adequate display, you need to launch the command line directly from the C:/adb folder. I didn’t do this (as can be seen from the screenshot), but still the phone appeared in the desired line.

  1. The following command is fastboot oem edl. Directly switching to mode.

The operation ends in success, as written on the command line. The smartphone goes out completely, it is in Download mode (edl).

  1. A new device appears on the computer in COM. The flash driver will work with it.

How to enable mode without adb command

Since experiments with USB cables are a thing of the past, there are almost no options left. Of the proven ones, I can recommend a method based on short-circuiting the so-called test points. These are special points located on the motherboard for severe cases associated with the complete inadequacy of the device. To raise the device from the brick state.

Typically, such methods are discussed on specialized forums, but w3bsit3-dns.com did not stand aside and pointed the right path in this direction. I did not torture my phone, due to the fact that getting to these points is not very easy, you need to thoroughly disassemble it.

I suggest you look at the photos taken by a craftsman who was able to connect his device to a computer and switch it to EDL mode.

Having closed a couple of contacts, he connected the smartphone to the PC. A new COM port has appeared in the device manager.

How to exit the mode

I didn't flash my phone; there was no need for it. The exit was simple - closed the command window and disconnected the smartphone from the computer. Then, with a long tap on the power button, the logo appeared on the screen. The phone booted into working mode.

Another output is used when flashing the phone. Still, our main goal is to flash it, so we launch the flasher, it “recognizes” our device as a COM with some number and uploads a new system into it. We are waiting for the process to finish. If successful, the device should exit the mode on its own and load the installed OS. You don't need to do anything, just disconnect the phone from the computer.

Possible problems

If Xiaomi was unable to enter EDL mode, we begin checking the drivers. All previously installed programs must be checked for compatibility so that a yellow triangle does not appear in your device manager. Important point: QDLoader HS-USB Driver may not install automatically, update the device manually.

Don't forget about disabling mandatory driver digital signature verification. Otherwise, nothing will be installed and the device will never appear.

Another point is related to the operation of the adb program. If the device is not detected on the command line, then I recommend running the fastboot command directly from the adb folder.

If nothing helps and your smartphone refuses to enter EDL mode, then the only method left is based on closing testpoints. There is no need to buy any Deep Flash Cable, they will not help you anyway.

Unfortunately, the bootloader on my Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro was unlocked a long time ago, and for the purity of the experiment it would be necessary to return it to its original state. I didn’t do this, so I can’t say with 100% confidence that the described method will really help. We take the second method as a basis, with the closure of control points on the motherboard. At the moment, he is the only one to whom there are no complaints, at least as indicated by the authoritative website 4pda.

Many smartphone users have already adapted to updating the firmware on their gadgets, installing special operating systems, etc. But doing this in our time is not so easy, since almost all phone manufacturers now block bootloaders (aka bootloaders) on their devices, mainly for security reasons. To avoid this problem, there is a special mode “EDL Mode”, it is also called “Download” mode, which will be discussed further.

As mentioned above, Xiaomi’s edl mode helps change the phone’s operating system. Some consumers don't even know whether their bootloader is unlocked or not. And if it’s blocked, you need to fix it, because without it you can neither get root rights (developer rights) nor update the firmware, which are coming out more and more often.

The process of unlocking it takes a lot of time, and also requires confirmation from the manufacturer itself, in our case, Xiaomi, and this means filing an application on your own, waiting, and in general no one promises that Xiaomi will give a positive answer. Using the Xiaomi edl mode is a 100% guarantee that you can install any firmware, including custom firmware.

EDL Mode is also convenient and easy to use for new and inexperienced users.

Which Xiaomi models have EDL mode and how to use it

The edl mode is not a function built into the smartphone, so you can enter it on any model, be it Xiaomi Redmi 3, Xiaomi Redmi 4x, Xiaomi Mi 5 etc.

To put Xiaomi into edl mode, you can use two methods: a method carried out by a specific set of keys, and a method carried out through Fastboot. It is worth noting that the first option is less likely than the second, that is, the guarantee of the result is not one hundred percent, while the second method will definitely help change Xiaomi firmware by entering edl.

For the second method you will need a computer.

How to log into EDL Xiaomi: method one

This method is provided first because it is recommended that you try it first. Although it was said above that it does not guarantee the result, if everything works out for you, you will not have to proceed to the second method and waste a lot of time.

Instructions:

  1. Turn off your phone;
  2. Press the on/off and volume up buttons at the same time;
  3. After the Xiaomi logo appears, release the Power button, but continue to hold the Volume Up key until the menu appears;
  4. The main phone manager should open in front of you - MainMenu, from where you can do a lot of things;
  5. In most cases, the main menu is in Chinese, but this is not a problem: the name of the button we need is written in English, including “Download” - click on it;
  6. Now all you have to do is change the firmware to the desired one using the “Mi Flash” program;
  7. Ready!

How to enable EDL Mode: second method

If the first method does not bear fruit, use the second. Reminder: you will need a computer, and along with it, official Xiaomi drivers installed on the PC.

If you connect your smartphone to your PC for the first time, there is a chance that it will install the necessary drivers on its own.

Also, to carry out this method, you must have access to Fastboot.

Instructions:

  1. Understand Xiaomi drivers. If the computer did not install the drivers itself or you have unofficial ones, download and install them, for example, from the “4PDA” website in the tab with the name of your phone model. Also, drivers may require updating, and you can check this in the “Device Manager” on your PC.
  2. Next, you need to download and install the program " ADB RUN» to the computer (pay attention to its advantages);
  3. Turn off your phone;
  4. Now you need to enter Fastboot mode: hold down the volume down and power buttons at the same time, after the vibration signal, release them and wait for the rabbit and the little android to appear;
  5. Connect the gadget to the PC via a USB cable;
  6. In the installed program " ADB RUN» enter words « fastboot oem edl", be extremely careful;
  7. If you did everything correctly, the phone screen will turn black;
  8. Now you can change the phone's firmware, again using the program " Mi Flash»;
  9. Ready!

Instead of the program ADB RUN", you can use the utility " Fastboot", and as for having root rights (developer rights), as was previously said, they are not necessary when using the edl mode, but they can save and secure your device if you do something wrong.

How to reflash a smartphone while in edl mode

To update the smartphone operating system, you will need the “ADB RUN” program, Xiaomi drivers on your computer, the “Mi Flash” program: better - the latest version and an unlocked bootloader.

Instructions:

  • Unzip the files " ADB RUN", if you have not done this earlier (as a rule, this can be done on drive C);
  • Connect your smartphone to your computer via a USB cable;
  • Go to files " ADB RUN» program and click in the empty field, then select “Run PowerShell” or “Open PowerShell window”;
  • In the window that opens, enter the following: “cd C:\adb” (command line); “fastboot devices” (phone identification); “fastboot oem edl” (entering Fastboot mode);
  • Then: ". \ Fastboot devices" (PowerShell); ". \ Fastboot oem edl" (Fastboot mode);
  • If the screen goes dark, you are doing everything right;
  • Turn on the Mi Flash program;
  • In the “Select” tab, select the firmware (WITHOUT RUSSIAN LANGUAGE) and click on the “Refresh” button;

  • The recognized edl mode will appear here, and you need to start the firmware update by clicking on “Flash”;

  • Flashing takes 5-10 minutes, after which you will receive a notification that the update was successful;
  • Next, disconnect the phone from the computer and hold down the power button until the gadget turns on;
  • Ready!

How to exit EDL Mode

To exit edl mode, you just need to close all windows of used programs on your computer, disconnect your smartphone from the PC, and it will enter normal mode. In extreme cases, it may not turn on - do it yourself in the usual way.

Article Description

Hi all! Today I want to discuss with you about Emergency Download Mode, that is, EDL/Test Point. What is it for? Yeah, good question, I don’t argue. In fact, in factories, on the assembly line, until the phone is assembled, more precisely, until the device’s Motherboard is installed on the chassis, it passes through a Reanimator, this is a person who will install the firmware in the board itself via EDL, using various methods, the most A popular method in factories is a developed file via the Command Line, or using a Deep Flash wire or the most common method - Test Point. But it is also used to unbrick devices, of course there are still options for using EDL, but with the purpose of Protecting your devices from data theft I I can't provide them. How to log in to EDL? Yes, there are various ways. First method: Test Point As we know, the Redmi series has a metal cover that covers 80% of the back of the device chassis, the remaining 20% is covered by plastic elements that serve as antennas and therefore you can safely open the device using a plastic card. so as not to scratch the lid, or so as not to touch some tunnel (loop). Next, unscrew the screws to remove the protective shell of the Motherboard (on some devices), disconnect the Battery cable and look for those Magic Contacts (the contacts are in different places, depending on the device model) and close them until the PC starts installing the QDLoader HS-USB9008 driver, then we open them Second method: Deep Flash Wire This method is useful for devices of the Mi and Poco series, since these models have a Glass and plastic back panel and to remove it you need to heat it up, then carefully remove it, do the work, then clean off traces of glue and reapply a new layer and then glue the glass, but DFC saves us from this. How does it save? As we know, we need to close 2 wires Green (Data Plus) and black (GND=Ground) for a couple of seconds until the PC detects the device as a COM port, then open the contacts. How to create a Deep Flash wire? What do we need? 1) Preferably Original wire USB2) Utility knife or scalpel3) Button (I recommend) Next, take the scalpel and remove the first layer of insulation (some have a screen) and we see 4 wires: Black, Green, White and Red. Then we take and carefully remove the insulation from the black and green cables. Next, we take the button and connect it, more precisely, we connect the positive contact of the button to the Green wire, the negative contact to the Black wire, then insulate it with electrical tape. Third method: File fasboot-edl First, download the archive from here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwceRubkPe1pcVpUV0E0c0JnRG8/view?usp=sharing then unpack it to the root of drive C, switch the device to Fastboot mode and connect it to the PC, then open the Fastboot-EDL folder and run the fastboot-edl.cmd file, after which the screen should go dark and the installation of the QDLoader HS-USB9008 driver should appear on the PC, and in the device manager it should be defined as a COM port. Fourth method: Through Recovery (for brick this does not apply) Enter Recovery (turn off the device, hold down the Volume () and power buttons until the menu appears. Next in the menu there is a Download button, click on it and the device enters EDL mode, connect to the PC and flash. Attention!!! To flash firmware via EDL, you need to disable Driver Signing and manually re-update the QDLoader HS-USB9008 driver. Evgeniy is with you as always, Good luck to everyone!

Complete instructions for flashing the firmware (or FAQ on how to flash) the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro smartphone. Unlocking the phone, flashing official or custom firmware, Russification, Unlock bootloader, installing TWRP recovery.

Codename Redmi Note 3 Pro (Snapdragon 650) – Kenzo! Do not confuse with Redmi Note 3 (MTK Helio X10) – henessy and Redmi Note 3 Pro (Special Edition) – kate.

To successfully flash a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro phone, you need a PC with Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10. Unfortunately (and maybe joyfully), the MiFlash program, which is used to flash the device’s firmware, does not work on Windows XP.

Download and install the Mi PC Suite program on your PC - it will automatically install all the necessary drivers. Then download and install XiaoMiFlash

When prompted to verify the driver signature, click “Install anyway.”
If some drivers suddenly do not install, then download the file and manually select this folder xiaomi_usb_driver.rar through the “Device Manager” and install the driver from it.

Then download the firmware you need for MiFlash

for example Global Stable – Kenzo

unpack it with an archiver into a convenient folder (for example, your desktop) and it is advisable to rename the firmware to a normal short name (without numbers, dots and other hieroglyphs).

Pull out program shortcuts to the desktop (if they do not appear automatically):

MiFlash on the path C:\Program Files\Xiaomi\MiPhone, right-click on the MiFlash.exe file and send the shortcut to the desktop.
XiaoMiFlash on the path C:\XiaoMi\XiaoMiFlash, we also send a shortcut to the file XiaoMiFlash.exe

We put Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro into EDL mode

Method No. 1– Via switched on phone

In the phone, we enable USB debugging mode, which is located in the settings for developers, which in turn will appear in the additional settings after repeatedly tapping on the MIUI version in the phone information, and just in case, we also activate the factory unlock (oem unlock) .
We connect the phone to the computer. On stationary PCs, preferably into one of the USB connectors located on the back of the system unit, that is, into the motherboard itself. On laptops it doesn't matter.
Depending on what program we installed, we follow the path:
In the directory with MiFlash, located along the path C:\Program Files\Xiaomi\MiPhone\Google\Android, hold down SHIFT on the keyboard and right-click – Open command window.
or
In the directory with XiaoMiFlash, along the path C:\XiaoMi\XiaoMiFlash\Source\ThirdParty\Google\Android, we do similar actions.

In the command line that opens, write:

adb devices

Click OK in the window that appears on the phone screen.
After that, enter the command:

adb reboot edl

and the phone goes into EDL mode, which will be indicated by the LED blinking red.

Method No. 2– Via fastboot

We go to the Mi account on the phone, turn on all Mi services, be sure to go from both the computer and the phone to i.mi.com and click find device there.
Launch the unlocker and enter your data. We switch the Redmi Note 3 Pro smartphone to fastboot (press Volume Down and Power button until the hare appears), insert the cable into the phone, press the unlock button.
After unlocking, delete/log out of the Mi account (not necessary, but if the radio module fails, this will help us).

Note:
After the 1st unlock, you can do it again on any firmware.

Firmware TWRP recovery on Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro

We will install TWRP via fastboot and .img file

To do this, you need to have a fastboot (you can download it above), and of course you need to download the TWRP recovery itself

We switch the phone to fastboot mode (press Volume Down and Power button until the hare appears) and insert the cable into the phone. If the smart phone is already in the fastboot, then we just plug in the cable.

In the directory with XiaoMiFlash, along the path C:\XiaoMi\XiaoMiFlash\Source\ThirdParty\Google\Android, hold down SHIFT on the keyboard and right-click – Open command window.
Copy the downloaded file ***.img to the same folder. where ***.img is the name of the recovery file. You can even call it twrp.img, but then the command must be written with exactly this file name
In the command line that opens, write the command:

fastboot flash recovery xxx.img

That's all, the smartphone will reboot with custom TWRP Recovery installed, then you can flash any custom firmware to your xiaomi redmi note3 pro.

Flashing custom firmware on xiaomi redmi note 3 pro via TWRP Recovery

By default, we assume that the smart phone already has TWRP recovery installed.

Download any suitable firmware (custom, localized or official UpdaterApp/TWRP.

They all come in .zip and are suitable) for your phone in *.zip format, then copy it to the phone’s memory or MicroSD card.
We reboot into TWRP, if desired, we do wipes (clearing OS data), I always do wipes so that the firmware becomes smooth (How to enter TWRP: Turn off the phone, Hold Volume Up and Power On. When the Mi logo appears, release the power button.)

Wipe => Advanced Wipe
Select partitions: system, data, cache

In recovery, click Install – select storage – microsd and specify the path to your firmware, select it and confirm your desire to flash it.

At the end of the process we see the word “successful” which means everything is OK. We reboot into normal mode and use our firmware.

If you notice an error, select a piece of text and press Ctrl+Enter
