1. Don't save incoming files.
By default, WhatsApp saves all the pictures and videos that friends share with you. After a while, the phone's memory becomes clogged with other people's photos, pictures, and other garbage that you don't need. By unchecking the checkbox, you will still receive and view the file sent to you, but you will leave the device memory alone.

2. Do not show message previews.
A harmless function that shows the text of a message sent to you in notifications. It remains harmless until you meet curious friends, when, inadvertently, someone reads your message. Perhaps these are signs of the author’s paranoia, so the choice is yours. You can disable it here:

4. Hide the “was back then” information.

Have there been times when you read a message, but did not dare to respond? Hide information when you logged into WhatsApp. This can be done in the “Privacy” tab. But by hiding your “was then” information, you won’t see someone else’s either.

5. Set up automatic backup.
whatsapp can automatically backup correspondence to the ones you specify periods of time. Automatic backup occurs daily, weekly or monthly. Chats and contacts are saved in iCloud, you can enable

By default, WhatsApp cannot be installed on a memory card in order to use an external drive to store personal data. You can verify this by visiting the corresponding FAQ page of the application’s official website.

All media files of dialogues (photos, videos) are saved to internal memory. Encrypted copies of dialogues are stored here. All this leads to the fact that the main memory of the smartphone quickly runs out, causing some functions of the device to become unavailable. In addition, sometimes it is useful to make a backup of all files and correspondence.

How to save WhatsApp data

There are only a few ways to save user data to a WhatsApp memory card. The simplest of them is to place a backup in cloud storage. This feature is provided by the developers, so it does not require the installation of additional applications.

To create an archive with personal data, follow the recommendations.

  1. Open your messenger settings.
  2. Find the Chats menu.
  3. Go to the "Chat backup" section.

Information should appear on the screen about the last time WhatsApp was saved to the memory card. Below is an indicator of the synchronization progress status.

Here you can configure the settings for saving a copy to the Google cloud.

  1. Specify how often you want to synchronize: every day, week, month. This function can be switched to manual mode or disabled altogether.
  2. Choose which Google account will be used to save your correspondence history.
  3. Set your preferred Internet connection: Wi-Fi only or combined with a mobile network.
  4. Select whether you would like to also save videos from your message history.

WhatsApp files are saved to the memory card immediately after synchronization is completed. This function does not completely solve the problem of filling up the internal storage, but it protects important data from being deleted. After a factory reset or purchasing a new smartphone, the conversation history along with all media files will be quickly restored from the cloud storage.

Transfer the entire application to an external device

An advanced way to transfer WhatsApp to a memory card involves the use of additional programs. The LuckyPatcher tool can easily handle this task, but to perform the operation you need to allow the device to install programs from unverified sources and unlock root rights.

Attention! Some of these actions may cause your mobile phone to malfunction. Install third-party software, work with administrator rights, and transfer applications only if you understand what you are doing and what results you expect. Always make a backup before saving WhatsApp media to a memory card.

To transfer the application to external media, follow the instructions.

  1. Open the LuckyPatcher app. Wait for the list of applications to form. When you launch it for the first time, you will need to grant the program administrator rights (root).
  2. Find WhatsApp in the list. Make sure that the messenger is installed on the smartphone's memory. This is evidenced by the abbreviated inscription opposite: INT - internal storage, SD - external storage, SYS - the application is installed as a system one.
  3. Tapping on the application will open the menu. You need the "Transfer to SDCard" function.

Wait for the process to complete, do not close LuckyPatcher or restart your phone. After these manipulations, the external drive will become the default storage.

Images and videos from WhatsApp that your interlocutors constantly send are automatically saved in the smartphone’s memory and take up a lot of space. The solution to the problem may be to move all Android application data to an SD card. But is this possible?

Is it possible to move WhatsApp to an SD card?

Unfortunately, getting WhatsApp to save all your photos and videos to your SD card is not that easy. However, this can be done by users with root rights - just install the free Android application FolderMount, which will help you move the WhatsApp root folder to an external memory card. The tool “deceives” the messenger by pretending that the folder is still in the internal memory. We tell you more about root rights on Android.

By the way, the FolderMount program can be used not only for WhatsApp, but also to transfer other Android applications to an SD card.

How to Save WhatsApp Data on SD Card

  • Download and install the FolderMount app. Once it starts, confirm the root request.
  • In the menu bar in the upper right corner, click on the plus sign.
  • Enter any name in the Name field.
  • In the Source section, add a folder from the smartphone's internal memory.
  • Now select the desired folder on the external SD card under Destination.
  • Check the box next to Exclude from media scan. This will prevent duplicate images or videos in the gallery.
  • Confirm your actions in the next dialog box by clicking Yes. Now all WhatsApp data will be stored on the SD card.

With WhatsApp app on your phone, you will receive many messages, videos, audios and even documents as seen on the latest version of WhatsApp. These media files are automatically saved on the phone's internal memory. So, over time, you will see that these files are filling up your internal memory, so you will be required to free them. Deleting these valuable files is not a good idea, but you can move them to SD cards. Moving WhatsApp media to SD card may not be possible according to WhatsApp Official website but in this article we will show you how to move WhatsApp to SD card.

Part 1.How to Move WhatsApp to SD Card

Using ES File Explorer

To move WhatsApp data to SD card, you will have to download a third-party app on your phone like ES File Explorer. This application will allow you to transfer media files as well as WhatsApp itself to your SD card, thus freeing up internal memory. ES File Explorer is of great value also when you need to manage files easily on your phone.

Step 1. Download ES File Explorer from the Google Play Store on your Android phone and install it.

Step 2: Open ES File Explorer on your Android phone. On some phones, they may be installed as "File Manager".

Step 3. From the home page, swipe left on the screen and you will have access to the local folder, which is your internal storage. This is often referred to as the default SD card. Scroll down and you will see the WhatsApp folder.

Step 4. Long press on a WhatsApp folder and it will be marked. Now go to the bottom right and click on the “More” button, here you will find the “Move to” option, select the SD card.

In the situation that you only want to move the media files, go to the local storage and click on the WhatsApp folder. You will find "Media" files. Click on it and select the specific media file you want to move. Next step is in the bottom right corner when you have marked the files and click on "Move to > SD Card".

You can also use the built-in Cut and Paste ability to transfer data from internal memory to SD card.

Step 5. On the SD card, you can click on the add button to create a name for the new folder.

Step 6. Finally, click on the "OK" button and your files will be copied to a new folder on the SD card. This often takes a long time depending on the size of your WhatsApp files.

Bingo! All your WhatsApp data has been transferred to the SD card without the need to root your devices. It is also advisable to go to the internal memory and erase the WhatsApp folder, if any. You can also use this app to transfer other apps to SD card after a similar procedure. Moreover, ES File Explorer also helps you manage files on your internal memory as well as external memory.

Part 2.What is an SD memory card?

Most digital devices have memory cards, most of them being SD cards. SD cards, standing for Secure Digital cards, are small non-volatile memory cards inserted into phones, cameras, camcorders and other portable devices to create more storage capacity. This type of memory card was developed by the SD Card Association. SD Card allows you to store photos, video audio and other files on your portable device.

There are various companies that manufacture SD cards such as Lexar, Samsung, Transcend, Kingston, Sandisk and many more. The difference in the SD cards produced by these companies is the size, speed and capacity of the SD cards they produce, apart from the appearance.

SD Memory Card Types:

Secure Digital Standard Digital Card (SDSD)

This kind of SD card supports lower capacity which is 2GB and below.

Secure Digital High Capacity Cards (SDHC)

This kind of SD memory card provides up to 32GB storage capacity.

Secure Digital Extended Capacity Card (SDXC)

It is one of the largest capacity that offers users up to 2TB.

When switching to an SD card there are a few things you need to take into account.

SD card cost: You have always heard the phrase “Cheap is expensive,” so when buying an SD card, go for expensive SD memory cards as they are of good quality.

Speed: Depending on the task you are doing, these are different classes with different speeds suitable for each task. For example, for your smartphone it will be for class 2, this is normal, unlike a photographer who requires a high speed SD memory card of class 4, 6 or 10.

Capacity: For heavy duties, consider larger warehouse capacity.

Physical size: SD card comes in different sizes, so choose one that is compatible with your device's memory slot.

SD cards are essential on our phones and other handful of devices as they offer great storage. This means that we must always handle these boards. The SD card also allows you to transfer or move files from the internal memory to the SD card memory. Besides data, you can also save apps to SD cards and still use them on your phone. At the end of the day, if data is lost on SD cards, you can recover it easily using data recovery software.

WhatsApp is the most popular mobile manager on the Android platform. It weighs approximately 50 MB, which might not seem like much? But after a while, the program accumulates a lot of backup content in the internal memory of the smartphone, which can reach volumes of up to 1 GB! A very voracious messenger that takes up a lot of internal memory. But this can be fixed by moving WhatsApp to a memory card.

Alas, the developers have not officially introduced the ability to transfer an application to an SD card, since, according to them, the technologies within the operating system do not allow them. But there are a couple of tricks thanks to which we can configure Android and still install this messenger on a memory card.

There are two ways to transfer WhatsApp to a memory card, namely:

  • Transfer WhatsApp files with media content from the application, while leaving the program itself in the internal storage.
  • Transfer the entire program to a memory card via Lucky Patcher with root rights.

How to transfer WhatsApp files with application media content?

The first method is quite simple, but it does not completely solve the problem. The program itself will still not move to the memory card. We will only transfer WhatsApp data, but this is what takes up so much memory. The fact is that when you first download this messenger, it weighs a little - only about 50 MB. But then, when you actively use it, it saves all the conversations, photos and videos from your conversations. It is this data that takes up so much space in the smartphone storage. They can be saved to a memory card, which is what we will include. But we will not transfer WhatsApp to the SD card.

To transfer data, do the following:

  • open your smartphone settings;
  • then “Storage” or “Content Settings”;
  • select "Default storage";
  • and check "SD card".

Now use any convenient file manager and transfer existing data to a memory card, to do this:

  • Open the internal storage of the smartphone;
  • In the internal storage, find the “WhatsApp” folder;
  • Move this folder to the root directory of the SD card;

If you do not need your correspondence, you can simply delete the “WhatsApp” folder, and the application itself will not be affected.

For more convenient data transfer, you can enable cloud data synchronization through the WhatsApp settings, for this:

  • Open the messenger settings;
  • Open the “chat” item;
  • Then go to “Chat Backup”;
  • And in the menu that opens, synchronize the data to the memory card. This way, all data will be placed on the memory card as a copy. This copy can be used, for example, to transfer data between devices.

How to transfer the entire program to a memory card via Lucky Patcher?

Attention! For this method, you must have root rights on your smartphone! If you have no idea what it is, it’s better not to read the article further and use the simpler first method!

To transfer all WhatsApp to a memory card, do the following:

  • Download the Lucky Patcher program from any trusted site.
  • Open the program and wait until the system is fully scanned.
  • After scanning, a list of all applications will appear, find WhatsApp among them.
  • Click on the messenger and select “Move to SD card”.
  • Wait until the procedure is completed.

This way the messenger will be transferred to the memory card. But keep in mind that it may be unstable in this position. You do everything at your own peril and risk.
