Instructions

Buy a SATA-IDE adapter.

Disconnect power and all connecting cables to your computer. Open the cover of the system unit. Touch the radiator for a few seconds. This is to remove static electricity from your hands, which could otherwise damage sensitive computer components.

Take a SATA cable - you will need it to connect your adapter to the motherboard. The SATA cable is usually about 25 centimeters in length, most often red. You can easily recognize it by its connector: about a centimeter wide, flat, with a slight bend on one edge. Both sides of the SATA cable are equal, so it doesn’t matter which side you plug it into the motherboard and which side into the adapter.

You will also need an IDE cable to connect your floppy drive or hard drive to the converter. The IDE cable is flat, about 5 centimeters wide, with hard plastic connectors in the form of two rows of holes. Usually has three connectors, one on top of the other two. This connector is used to connect to the motherboard or controller.

Find any free SATA connector on the motherboard. They are shaped like a SATA cable, only surrounded by a protective frame that will help you connect the cable correctly. Plug one end of the cable into the motherboard and the other into your adapter.

Connect your device (floppy drive or hard drive) and the SATA-IDE adapter with an IDE cable. Insert the far single end of the cable into the adapter, and one of the free connectors on the other side into the disk drive.

Please note: near the cable location on your drive there is a group of six contact pins that can be connected by a small plastic jumper. You will find the MA/SL/CS markings on the top or bottom of the drive near these pins. If you don't have a jumper, you don't need anything. If there is a jumper, pull it out and install it opposite the CS mark. This is necessary to correctly identify your device.

Connect the white rectangular connector from the power supply to your drive. If the adapter has a white rectangular socket with four pins, connect another connector from the power supply to it. Insert the disk drive or hard drive into the case of your system unit, if you removed it.

Plug in the power cable, keyboard, mouse and monitor cables. Turn on your computer - your adapter is ready to use.

Very often places on hard disk becomes small and there is a need to increase the amount of memory. One way to increase capacity is to install a hard drive.

You will need

  • Knowledge about the structure of the system unit, a screwdriver.

Instructions

You purchased a new hard drive and brought it home to install it. To install, you must contact the manufacturer's service department if the case is under warranty and covered with stickers, or install. For self-installation, you need to remove the wall of the system unit.

Next you need to find the cable that goes to the hard drive. Usually in modern motherboards it is possible to install up to 8 or more rigid ones. Each of the cables has a cable that needs to be inserted into the connector on disk. There is only one correct connection option. Do not use force; if the cable does not insert, you may be doing something wrong. Make sure the keys on the cable match the hard one disk.

Video on the topic

note

Disconnect power from the computer before disassembling! Be careful, the internal elements are quite fragile.

The growth of digital technologies sets its pace in the world of computers and few are surprised that we have to increase the capacity of hard drives and their performance. However, old models can serve you along with the “newbies”. All that remains is to place them correctly in the computer and avoid the pitfalls that you may encounter with such a combination.

You will need

  • - hard drive;
  • - data cable with a suitable connector;
  • - free space in the computer system unit.

Instructions

Place the new one in the computer case. To do this, turn off the computer, disconnect the power supply (turn off the button or unplug the power cord), remove both side covers of the system unit, install and secure the new hard drive into the free slots of the case with screws on both sides. Connect the data cable (flex cable) and power cable. Modern hard drives, as a rule, are connected via a SATA (Serial ATA) connector. Before purchasing, make sure that the motherboard of your computer has a similar connector. Otherwise, you need to use a hard drive with the old connection technology - IDE. Set the jumpers to the appropriate position (if it is the main disk, to the “Master” position, if the slave one is “Slave”). A sticker with the position of the jumpers is usually located on the hard drive case. Install the side covers of the system unit and connect the power.

Turn on the computer and enter the SETUP BIOS utility (usually this requires holding down the Del key at the beginning of boot). In the SETUP program you need to make sure that the new and old hard drives are correctly identified by the system and occupy the required order. This can be seen in the Standard CMOS Features menu. Having opened it, look at the list of detected devices, for each of which properties will be shown (size, number of cylinders, etc.). If you plan to boot from a new disk, then select the corresponding item next to your disk in the Advanced BIOS Features menu and indicate it first.

Restart your PC. Monitor the loading of the operating system and make sure there are no failures or abnormal situations (unexpected reboots). If everything went well, the system will detect the new hard drive with the first launch and allow you to work with it. If the drive is , then the cables are connected correctly and the SETUP is installed.

The found hard drive is ready for use: it can be formatted, created new partitions, assign logical drive letters. To easily use these features, open the Explorer program (WIN + E) and select the context menu by right-clicking on the new drive. Remember, all information on disks is destroyed! Take steps to archive or back up information to other hard drives or Flash devices.

note

Each hard drive requires its own personal cable (data cable). The number of allowed connections is determined by the availability of free slots (IDE or SATA) on the motherboard.

The SETUP utility can be entered using a key other than Del. To determine it, you should pay attention to the prompt about entering SETUP at the initial stage of loading the PC.

Helpful advice

There are a large number of specialized programs for working with hard drives. They allow you to create and delete logical partitions, format a disk for different operating systems, check the health of the hard drive and data integrity, test speed and much more.

  • how to connect a new hard drive

What to do in a situation if you do not have a sata connector installed on your motherboard, but you need to connect the equipment to this connector. Hard drives today are sold specifically for sata interfaces. But finding a hard drive with an IDE interface is problematic. Of course, this is possible, but finding such a hard drive may take a lot of time. In fact, the problem can be solved quite simply - buy and install sata- controller.

You will need

  • Computer, sata controller, screwdriver

Instructions

Disconnect power from the computer. Unscrew the screws that secure the system unit cover and remove it. The controller must be installed in a PCI slot. If you don't know where the PCI slots are on your motherboard, you can look in the technical documentation for your computer. If you don’t have technical documentation, find them on the motherboard yourself: all slots on motherboards are labeled. As a rule, they are located in the lower left corner of the motherboard, next to the video card slot. Depending on the motherboard model, there may be a different number of PCI slots. There should be a minimum of three.

Simply insert the sata controller into one of the PCI slots and then secure it with a screw. You will see where to tighten the screw after you connect the controller to the PCI slot. Without closing the system unit cover, connect the computer to power and turn it on. When the operating system boots, it should recognize the controller automatically.

Almost all controllers have Plug & Play technology, so there is no need to configure them when connecting. When the device is recognized by the system, install its software. To do this, use the software disk that should come with the controller. Additional software will expand its capabilities.

Then turn off the computer and connect the necessary sata devices to the controller. Next you need to connect the power cable to them. See if your power supply has a cable with a sata interface. In the place where the cable is connected to the device, there should be an inscription sata. If the power supply does not have such a cable, you will not be able to connect power to the device. In this case, purchase an adapter for connecting sata power. These are available in any computer store.

Many experienced users often use second and third monitors at work; gamers often resort to such tricks, but even an ordinary person may want to connect a computer or smartphone to a TV. There are many options for connecting devices: from a standard VGA connection to a wireless connection. However, the most popular and easiest way is synchronization using an HDMI cable.

Now the HDMI connector is present on almost all new video cards, both in laptops and personal computers. And if this port is not there, and you don’t want to change the entire machine just to be able to connect a new generation monitor or TV, then in this situation you need to purchase an HDMI/USB adapter. The choice of such devices is quite large, so let's figure out how to choose the right adapter and how to use it.

How it works?

You need to understand that both USB and HDMI are physical interfaces that transmit digital, not analog, data. However, they convey different types of information. Most likely, without special software, you will not be able to transfer a file from one device to another via HDMI, just as you cannot transfer sound directly using a USB connection. Therefore, before purchasing such an adapter, you need to search for suitable drivers.

The important thing is that you cannot install any drivers on the TV, because usually the TV screen manufacturer installs a closed operating system on the gadget, so you will only have to work with the computer.

How to connect devices to the monitor using such a device?

There is nothing complicated about this type of connection. First you need to connect the device to your laptop or computer. Manufacturers often offer the necessary software included, however, if the driver media is missing, you can easily find it by entering the device ID in the search bar of your browser. After installing the programs, you need to restart the computer and connect the monitor to the HDMI output connected to USB. For such devices, it is recommended to use the latest generation of USB connectors, no lower than the second, since version 1.0 is unlikely to provide the required information transfer speed.

How does a USB to HDMI adapter work?

In general, calling this device a regular adapter can only be conditional. Most often, this is an ordinary external video card. In addition, there are wireless devices that have approximately the same functionality as adapters of this type. All of these devices, including active cables, require connection to a power source.

An important distinguishing feature of such a device is the inability to transmit sound. That is, if you run out of connectors through which you can connect a monitor, then an additional port is created just by such an adapter. However, if you want to connect a TV, then you will need an HDMI to USB adapter for the TV. But to use its full functionality, you will have to tinker either with an additional connection or with software. However, you can always leave the audio output from your system's speakers.

Types of adapters from HDMI to USB

Of course, the presented adapter has subspecies. In addition to the usual adapters from HDMI to USB, there are more narrowly targeted ones. They are as follows:

  • Micro USB to HDMI adapter. Primarily used to connect handheld devices to a TV. If your tablet computer is powerful enough and you want to use the usual adaptive video player installed on your device, then using such an adapter you can easily connect your gadget to a TV or widescreen monitor.
  • Micro HDMI to USB adapter. In principle, it performs the same functions as the previous type of adapters. Modern computers are equipped with a micro HDMI connector to save resources without losing performance and data transfer speed.

As you can see, there are not very many subtypes, because there are few ports in the devices themselves, so if you wish, you can always find the right adapter.

Important aspects when purchasing an HDMI to USB adapter

It is also important to know a few things when purchasing so that when you attach the adapter everything will work properly.

Finally

Of course, before purchasing such an adapter, you should think about whether there are other options for connecting devices, because an HDMI/USB adapter is a rather problematic topic only when connecting to a TV, but if you need to connect a second or third monitor and do not want to sacrifice quality, then this adapter will suit you perfectly.

Currently, there are many video transmission standards. They were developed by different companies at different times and it is not surprising that different connectors and cables are used in different standards. If this does not cause problems within one device, then when expanding a multimedia system, sooner or later you will encounter problems when transmitting a video signal from one device to another. These problems can be divided into three types:

1. There is no standard cable or its length is not enough.
2. Paired devices use the same video signal transmission standard, but have different connectors.
3. The paired devices use different video signal standards.

The first problem is solved using video cables.

To solve the second problem, adapters are designed, which are a pair of connectors of different standards connected in a small housing. Here you need to have a good understanding of which connectors are used within the same video transmission standard and are, in principle, compatible with each other.

On the Internet you can easily buy an adapter from anything to anything – even HDMI to RCA. What is soldered to where and what might result from an attempt to use such an “adapter” - one can only guess.

To be fair, it should be noted that strange-looking adapters do exist and even work. But such adapters are always included with some kind of equipment that can recognize a non-standard signal on the connector and process it accordingly. Using such adapters on other devices may be fatal for those devices.

To solve the third problem, video signal converters are used. These should be used with caution, making sure that the converter is suitable for your equipment and does not spoil the image quality. This is especially true for digital to analog signal converters and vice versa.

Characteristics of video cables and adapters.

Type.

Video cables are intended to connect two elements of a video system. Typically, both sides of such a cable have connectors of the same type. However, it often happens that the video cable is also an adapter.

Adapter– a device designed to switch from one type of connector to another or, for connectors of the same type, from one type to another (from a plug to a socket or vice versa).

Length of cable should be selected in such a way that it is sufficient for the required connection with a small margin. It is not worth taking a cable that is too long unless necessary - even the best cables reduce the level of the useful signal, and the longer the cable, the more.

Ferrite rings or shielding cable is a way to protect the transmitted video signal from electromagnetic interference. It should be borne in mind that shielding as protection against interference will be ineffective if the equipment is not grounded.

The PVC insulation of conventional video cables is quite rigid; such cables have little flexibility, which can be inconvenient. Rubber insulation itself has poor resistance to mechanical stress, but placing it inside fabric braid protects the cable from mechanical damage, maintaining its flexibility. The aesthetic role cannot be denied - a fabric-braided wire looks more beautiful.

Connectors.
To understand which connectors can have adapters from which ones, let’s divide all connectors into groups that use compatible data transfer formats.

Component video is a method of transmitting an analog video signal over two or more channels, each of which carries some separate information about the color image.

Composite video is a method of transmitting an analog video signal over one channel.
Working adapters are only possible within one group.

TS, TRS, TRRS (Jack 3.5 mm) used for transmitting analog video signals. Typically, such a connector is installed in miniature devices (camcorders, cameras, recorders) due to its small dimensions. There is no single standard for wiring such a connector for transmitting a video signal, nor is there a standard for the video signal itself - both component and composite video signals can be transmitted through such a connector. It is strongly recommended to use adapters and video cables with a jack connector only with the equipment that came with it. Before purchasing a new adapter, you should find out exactly how the connector in the adapter is wired, how the signals are routed on the connected device; make sure that the wiring matches and that the video signal standards on the connected devices match. The most common adapters: TS – RCA, TRRS – 3 x RCA.

RCA (Phono) are used to transmit analog signals - component YPbPr and composite.

The YPbPr component video signal contains information about brightness, blue and red color levels. Of the common analog standards, YPbPr and VGA provide the best quality. To transmit such a signal, three RCA connectors are used, usually marked with colors and/or letters - green (Y), blue (Pb) and red (Pr).

A composite video signal contains all video information in one channel, which has a bad effect on image quality: of all video signal transmission standards, composite provides the worst quality. For such a signal, one yellow RCA connector marked “video” is used.

Despite the identical connectors, the standards are incompatible; it is impossible to connect a component output to a composite input (and vice versa) using an adapter.

The most common adapters: RCA - SCART, TRS - RCA, TRRS - 3 x RCA. For adapters of the last two types, you should make sure that the adapter is wired correctly in relation to the equipment used and that the signals on both sides of the adapter are consistent.

SVGA (VGA)– used to transmit a component analog RGB video signal containing information about the brightness level of three primary colors: red (R - Red), green (G - Green) and blue (B - Blue). Provides (together with YPbPr) the best quality of common analog standards.

The most common adapters: SVGA - DVI-I, SVGA - Displayport

DVI The connectors can be used to transmit an analog RGB signal (DVI-I), a digital one (DVI-D), or both together (DVI). Because of this versatility, some confusion arises with adapters: the presence of SVGA-DVI-I adapters on sale leads many to believe that signals from SVGA and DVI connectors are fully compatible. This is not true - only the analog part will work in such an adapter and an attempt to connect a purely digital output to, for example, the analog input of a monitor will be unsuccessful.

The most common adapters: DVI-I – SVGA, DVI-D – HDMI, DVI – Displayport

HDMI, miniHDMI, microHDMI– used to transmit digital video and audio signals. Accordingly, the adapter can also only be for a connector that allows the transmission of a digital video signal. In an HDMI-DVI adapter, only the digital part will be used and such a device is not suitable for pairing analog and digital signals.

There are several versions of the HDMI format, but the connectors and their wiring are the same for all versions. When it comes to cables, older versions of HDMI have higher bandwidth, so they place higher demands on cable quality. Cable standard HDMI speaks more about the quality of the cable than about its compatibility with a particular version of HDMI.

There are HDMI connectors with smaller dimensions - miniHDMI and microHDMI. They are all completely mutually compatible.

The most common adapters: HDMI-miniHDMI, HDMI-microHDMI, DVI-D - HDMI, HDMI - Displayport

Displayport (DP), miniDisplayport (miniDP)– a connector that is similar in appearance to HDMI, but is capable (like DVI) of simultaneous transmission of both digital and component analog RGB signals along with an audio signal. Another source of confusion, as both Displayport-to-SVGA and Displayport-to-HDMI adapters are commercially available. Of course, no signal conversion is performed in them, and it will not be possible to connect HDMI and SVGA using a pair of such adapters.

The most common adapters: HDMI - Displayport, DVI - Displayport, Displayport - miniDisplayport, Displayport-SVGA.

How to connect the adapter?

A wireless network adapter is a device that allows a computer to connect to the Internet. Wi-Fi adapters are relevant for PCs and laptops that are not equipped with a Wi-Fi module.

In this article we will look at how to connect and configure the adapter.

Types of network adapters

Today there are two types of Wi-Fi adapters

External adapters

  1. There are devices that look similar to a regular flash drive. Connect to a computer or laptop via a USB connector.
  2. There are also adapters on sale that look like a mini-router. The device is equipped with one or two external antennas and connects to a computer via USB/mini USB.

Internal adapters

  1. There are devices that look like a microcircuit to which one or two antennas are attached. They are connected to the computer via the motherboard.
  2. There are also adapters with a built-in antenna that are inserted into the computer's expansion slot (if available).

Regardless of the type of network adapter, the device provides access to the Internet through a connection to an access point.

Connecting and setting up a Wi-Fi adapter

  1. Check the contents of the wireless device: adapter, installation disk, user manual for connection and configuration. The kit may also include an extension cord (for USB adapters).
  2. Connect the adapter to your computer or laptop (via a USB port, to the motherboard or through a slot - depending on the device model). To connect a USB adapter, it is better to use the ports that are located on the back panel of the computer or use an extension cord to connect (this will result in a higher data transfer speed).
  3. Then insert the disc into the drive and install the software. Follow the installation wizard's instructions, accepting the license agreement along the way.
  4. If you do not have an installation disk, then download the drivers from the Internet by entering the adapter model and operating system type into a search engine.
  5. After the software installation is completed, the computer will display the corresponding entry on the screen: click the “OK” button and close all windows.
  6. Remove the device (if you need to safely remove it, use it) and restart your computer.
  7. Wait until the operating system loads completely and reconnect the Wi-Fi adapter to your computer or laptop.
  8. Left-click on the monitor icon, which is located on the taskbar near the clock, and check whether the network connection icon appears.
  9. Select the desired connection from the list and click on it.
  10. If required, enter a password.

How to connect an internal adapter to a computer

To install an internal network adapter in the computer system unit, there must be a free slot designated for it.

  1. Turn off the computer from the network and disconnect all wires from the rear panel of the system unit (if necessary, write down the location of the cables).
  2. Place the unit on a flat surface and unscrew the bolts on the back cover.
  3. The required socket is located on the rear panel at the bottom of the case: find an empty socket for the adapter, if necessary, remove the protective panel (unscrew the bolt).
  4. Remove the antenna from the adapter.
  5. Next, touch the unit body (to remove static electricity).
  6. Securely lock the adapter into the slot.
  7. If you removed the protective panel, then put it in place (tighten the bolt).
  8. Then you need to install the antenna to the network adapter.
  9. Close the system case and screw all the bolts into place.
  10. Reconnect all cables to the back panel and plug in the computer.
  11. Press the computer's power button and wait for the OS to fully load.

Take a look at our section, which contains articles on installing, connecting and replacing various devices.

I decided to make some distilled water here and, accordingly, I needed to connect the Liebig refrigerator (distiller) to the water supply. I began to think about how to connect the hose to the tap.

Standard solutions in the form of ready-made adapters for a faucet for a hose cost some absolutely unimaginable money (), so I began to think about how to get by with little expense.

In general, the solution turned out to be primitive: the easiest way to connect the hose to the tap is to use an aerator:

The fact is that the thread on the mixer watering can is very specific (diameter 22 mm, pitch 1 mm) and no ready-made plumbing gadgets are suitable for it. Except for the aerator, of course.

We unscrew it and shake out all the insides. We only need the metal shell itself:

By the way, plastic aerators are completely unsuitable due to their fragility and fragility. It needs to be made of metal.

We go to the nearest market, where they sell all kinds of plumbing fixtures, and buy there a fitting of the required diameter (for the hose we have) with a 1/2-inch internal thread. I bought for 9 mm:

We clamp the fitting into the drill and check that there is no beating when rotating:

We take a grinder with a cutting wheel and separate the excess:

It should look something like this:

Then we change the cutting wheel on the grinder to a flap one:

and carefully sand it down to get a smooth surface:

Then, using the same petal circle, we turn the hexagon into a circle and reduce its diameter until our modernized fitting begins to fit inside the aerator body. This must be done very slowly and carefully, the main thing is not to miss the moment. We periodically stop and check whether it is included or not:

As soon as the fitting begins to pass freely through the thread and rests against the internal narrowing of the aerator body, then our faucet attachment for the hose is considered ready. All that remains is to find a 1/2" silicone gasket (they are everywhere like dirt).

So, here is the answer to the question of how to connect a hose to a mixer:

Everything is assembled in this order:

I checked it at work: nothing is leaking anywhere, everything is reliable and aesthetically pleasing.

In total, our nozzle for a water tap for a hose cost 45 rubles (brass fitting), 5 rubles for the gasket and about 40 minutes of time, including cleaning the room.

And as a bonus, we will also have a half-inch brass nut left:

I hope my experience was useful to you and you learned another way to connect a hose to a faucet in the kitchen.

By the way, the aerator will not suffer at all after such use. It can be reassembled and screwed into place. It was as if nothing had happened!

Well, if you don’t have the opportunity to grind a fitting, for example, you don’t have a suitable tool, then an adapter for a hose faucet can be made even simpler. How? Watch the video!

That's all. Thank you for your attention!
