Windows. Viruses. Laptops. Internet. Office. Utilities. Drivers

We are all accustomed to the fact that you can upload content to your iPhone and iPad exclusively from your computer or the cloud. But these devices also have some features through which this limitation can be circumvented. Let's go!

Use without jailbreak

Typically OTG cables end with a microUSB connector. But, in the case of apple devices, this will not work. There is a special connector - 30 pin or Lighting. The first OTG for idevices is considered to be the Camera Connection Kit, an accessory created by Apple itself for photographers with an iPad.

Yes, the device couldn’t work with the iPhone and iPod Touch, and by the way, it still almost doesn’t.

These adapters worked very simply: connect the camera via USB or via an SD card reader and the “Camera” section appears in the Photo application (in iOS 7 “Import”), from where you can copy or move the desired photos or videos.

Enthusiasts who received this miracle for use paid attention to the full-fledged USB connector and began to connect anything to it. It turned out that you can connect a physical keyboard (both wired and wireless), USB headphones, a USB lamp, and even an iPhone (also just to move or copy photos/videos). And about 3-4 months ago, one geek connected an Ethernet cable and was able to get unprecedented Internet speed on his tablet. Here's the video if you're interested:

You can also use regular flash drives to transfer photos and videos. To do this you need to follow some simple rules:

  1. Flash drive file system FAT/FAT32 or HFS+
  2. There should be a “DCIM” folder in the root of the flash drive.
  3. All photos and videos must be in JPG and MOV formats, respectively, the file can only have a name like IMG_*four-digit number* (IMG_6075, IMG_0032. IMG_7050...)

Use with jailbreak

Jailbreak, as is usually the case, provides significantly more opportunities to use seemingly familiar devices. You can transfer and copy any files to any program on the device, watch movies from a flash drive and install programs from there piracy! Fu Fu Fu!

However, Apple brought its own fly in the ointment to this prosperity. In iOS 4.3.3, among other changes, the power consumption of the Camera Connection Kit was reduced from 100 mAh to 20. Accordingly, when connecting some USB flash drives (SD cards do not suffer from this), you may encounter this message

In order to get around this limitation, a hub with the ability to connect additional power is usually used. Additional power is connected to the hub and a flash drive is inserted, and the hub itself is already connected to the iPad. By the way, the iFile file manager is used to work with a flash drive.

This is what it looks like on the tablet itself:

For those who want to save money

There are many similar adapters on ebay, aliexpress and others, at a price that is often many times lower than what Apple offers for the original accessory.

They can be used, but only on iOS 6 and below. On iOS 7, enhanced authentication is enabled and Chinese adapters no longer work.

For the lazy

There are simply flash drives for iOS, PC and Mac with their own software and the ability to work with all devices, not just iPad. The most striking example is the i-FlashDrive drive

I tried to tell everything that is of value to the user of the idevice. Ask questions and suggestions in the comments. And, of course, this is my first post and all that...

There are not many portable solutions for expanding the memory of iPhone and iPad. And if they exist, then, as a rule, they cannot boast of having a tool for convenient interaction with the accessory. And today a rather unusual device from Transcend has found its way into our editorial office: a flash drive that can be connected to iOS gadgets without any adapters.

JetDrive Go 300 is designed specifically for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and is a miniature drive with a Lightning connector on one side and a 3.1 connector on the other. Simply put, it can be used not only to expand the memory of the device, but also to transfer data from a computer to iOS.

It's very easy to download movies, documents, photos and other files to your iPhone or iPad. Just download them to the JetDrive Go 300 from your computer, and then insert the flash drive into the Lightning connector. The system itself will prompt you to download a special application to work with the device, but just in case, we will leave a link to download it below.

Surely many have encountered a problem when they had a long flight ahead, and there was not enough space on the iPhone to download even two movies. This drive is available in two configurations - 32 GB (which was at our disposal) and 64 GB, in silver and black colors. There is enough capacity for the return journey.

The drive itself has a stylish metal case, due to which it fits perfectly with the design of iOS devices, while weighing only (!) 8 g. A useful thing is the extended Lightning connector: with it you can connect a flash drive even to an iPhone in a case.

The most interesting thing here is not so much the drive itself, but the application. It's called JetDrive Go and has a simple and intuitive interface. You can access data on a flash drive, device storage, camera roll, or create a backup copy.

We watched a couple of films - the player is convenient, the video loads quickly. Speed of 20 MB/s via Lightning does the trick.

With a couple of clicks, files can be moved between folders within the application and between your device’s storage and a flash drive. I was pleasantly surprised by the copying speed. The program also automatically recognizes photos and videos.

The backup function deserves special attention - you can create a backup copy of photos and videos, including from iCloud, and then place it on JetDrive Go. Transcend managed to create a very good tool for interacting with its device - even a child can figure it out.

There are many people in Russia who have to use iOS devices with a small amount of memory, for example, me. In the absence of a normal Internet, both music and applications with games have to be stored on one device. Personally, 16 gigabytes on my iPad 2 is extremely small. For myself, I found two ways out of this situation - store either music on removable media or applications and connect a flash drive to the iPhone or iPad when necessary.

In the first case, we are faced with a problem - not a single application in the App Store reads music from external devices. Therefore, as an esthete, I choose the second way - to store applications for iPhone and iPad in another place, that is, on a flash drive.

Camera Connection Kit - universal adapter

I have a whole scattering of 2-GB flash drives left over from phones. Camera Connection Kit, and an iPhone or iPad - that's what we need in order to use an external drive with an iOS gadget.

We will also need the latest version of the iFile program, which can independently mount external media. On the right in iFile we can observe the folder Applications, where all applications are located. In order not to encounter them in the form of folders with names like XXXX-XXXX-XXXX, we first need to go to the iFile settings and check the box next to " display application names"When we return, we will see quite normal names of games and programs with which we can operate.

Launching games and programs for iPhone, iPad from a flash drive (external drive)

The second step, and at the same time the last, is to transfer the folder with the program or game for iPhone or iPad from the device to another location. This could be the network storage you are connected to, the flash card is inserted Camera Connection Kit- anything.

After moving, we simply mark the folder and click move\shortcut. Then, returning to the standard applications folder, we create a shortcut. Marked in blue, it will be no different from standard locations. After this, you can safely run the transferred program.

Everything would be fine - but there is one drawback. The transferred program does not disappear from the desktop when you remove the flash drive, which can be misleading. However, you can remove the program in the usual way. So if you have Camera Connection Kit, a flash drive, a bunch of programs and at the same time the desire to store your entire music collection as a library in a standard player - use this method.

I hope this guide will help you, write in the comments if it is useful to you.

Many iPhone and iPad owners have a need to transfer files using a flash drive. Special devices and software can solve the problem of connecting peripheral devices.

Using adapters for the docking port, i-device users can free up memory on their smartphone or tablet by moving the captured video to a flash drive. There is also the possibility of connecting a scanner, keyboard, external hard drive, printer, camera, TV, USB hub or other devices compatible with a tablet or smartphone at the software level.

Empowerment Camera Connection Kit using the application iFile

The Camera Connection Kit is used to connect cameras or memory cards to the iPad. The device allows you to import photo and video files of supported formats onto the tablet and open them in standard iPad applications.

To use a USB drive with a tablet, you will need to additionally install the iFile file browser from Cydia. After connecting the flash drive to the device via an adapter and launching the iFile program, users will be able to view all information on external media, move and copy files in any direction - to a tablet or removable drive. To view and comfortably edit some types of files, you will need to activate the function of displaying encrypted file names in the iFile application settings, and also use special programs, for example, AVplayer, Buzz Player and iFunBox.

iUSBport - accessory for wireless work with external drives

The iUSBport device is designed to connect removable storage devices to tablets and smartphones. A compact and easy-to-use accessory organizes full data exchange with flash drives larger than 8 GB without the use of jailbreak.

iUSBport provides the ability to simultaneously interact with three connected Wi-Fi devices, including iPad, iPhone, Mac/PC. To work with Apple equipment, the standard functionality of the iOS system is used. Additionally, applications from the manufacturer can be installed, available for free or for a fee in the App Store, or programs from other developers designed to work via FTP. It is also possible to connect via a web interface using any convenient browser.

Working over Wi-Fi, the iUSBport device organizes its own connection point or connects to an existing wireless network. Using this connection, users can access any external drives that are connected to iUSBport via a USB connector located on its body. The ability to integrate the device into an existing Wi-Fi network allows you to simultaneously surf the Internet and constantly have access to a flash drive or hard drive without switching networks. Users can also organize work with cloud data storage.

In the context of the rapid development of information technology, everyone needs to preserve information received from different sources. Games, music, movies can accompany us on vacation, on the road, at work. Both schoolchildren and respected businessmen use various gadgets for this purpose. If you are unable to connect to the network, or when the amount of memory on your iPhone or iPad is not enough to store all the information, removable media comes to the rescue. It’s hard to imagine a modern person who would not have to use flash drives. And this is where the problem arises. When purchasing an iPhone or iPad, few people think about the lack of a connector for connecting a flash drive in the device. Today, unfortunately, they have not yet created any special removable media for such devices. Therefore, the relevant question is: how to connect a regular flash drive to an iPhone or iPad.

An accessory that will cope with this task - Camera Connection Kit

On one side this adapter connects to an iPhone or iPad, on the other side there is a slot for USB. With its help you can connect a memory card, camera, keyboard.
If you want the result to support not only MPEG AVI and JPG files, so that the content opens in different programs (not just standard) iPad, so that photos are imported without cropping, you cannot do without Jailbreak. In addition, the iFile program will help you install a flash drive. In the settings of this program, it is recommended to enable the display of file names.

Connect the flash drive and run the program

The first thing we need to do is connect our device to a flash drive using Camera Connection Kit. An error message will pop up on the screen - dismiss it.
Launch the iFile program. Your drive will appear in the left window of the program.
Now you can move any files in any direction – from the device to a USB flash drive and vice versa.

After transferring the folder with the program from the device to the flash drive, you need to click move shortcut for the marked folder. Then return to standard applications and create a shortcut. Now everything is ready to run the transferred program.
The goal was achieved: the use of a universal adapter made it possible to move the necessary programs and files to removable media and, thereby, free up the device’s memory.

And one moment. To connect to an iPhone or iPad, it is better to use flash drives with a small amount of memory. When using large flash memory, operation errors often occur due to insufficient power to read files.
