Windows. Viruses. Notebooks. Internet. office. Utilities. Drivers

Sometimes they come back. Old movies, consoles, games, hosts of popular shows. Legends that have managed to become memes over the years. It is not surprising: the easiest way to cut down the maximum hype is to re-release timeless classics.

In the case of Nokia 3310, it couldn't have happened otherwise. Assignee of Nokia, HMD Global, a phone was needed that could tell the whole world that the iconic brand was back and that this was the same Nokia that everyone loved and remembered.

The old school Finns from the management of this half-Chinese enterprise, as it turned out, are well versed in modern trends. Nokia 3310 was created for the hype. The result turned out to be predictable - the device was in most outlets on the second day after the start of sales in Russia.

What is special about it and does it rightfully deserve to be called the proud name of a legendary phone? Let's say right away: we did not break bricks for them, but you can go online with similar requests.

What's outside

This phone is either liked from the first touch, or causes instant rejection. I immediately liked the novelty, although I had never been a fan of Nokia mobile phones before.

The colorful youth box immediately attracts attention, but we got the phone in dark blue. The classic version in the style of the old school 3310: matte rough plastic, tight assembly without squeaks and backlashes.

Personally, I like the glossy colors of this model more, but it’s hard to find them on sale - dismantled instantly. They are not only brighter, but also feel a little different in the hand. It's hard to put into words, but the bright 3310 immediately looks more modern and attractive.

Yes, gloss collects scratches faster, but matte plastic is easily overwritten. But with a smooth colorful body, you immediately feel younger and return to the days of bright phones with buttons.

The shape of these same buttons evokes nostalgic memories of old Nokia dialers, but the phone does not look much like the original 3310. Familiar, but more modern. Perhaps this is the most accurate description. The designers did their best.

Nokia's latest simple-backgrounds didn't even come close in quality and style. I touched them all. New 3310 - best dialer companies for many years.

What is inside

Under the back cover, which is very difficult to remove, there are one or two slots for microSIM cards and a compartment for a card microSD memory up to 32 GB. For what? To take photos on 2 MP camera and music storage. The phone itself has only 16 MB of memory.

Example photo from 3310. Not bad for 2 megapixels?

In terms of filling, the phone is identical to Nokia 150, the difference is only in the camera resolution and the ability to access the Internet. It uses the Series 30+ platform. She does not know very much, but everything you need is there.

Simple player, radio. The menu even offers to watch a video, but you probably don't want to do it on a 2.4-inch display with a resolution of 240x320 pixels.

In addition to these functions, it offers a complete gentleman's set of a converter, an alarm clock, a voice recorder, notes, a calendar, a calculator, and other good things typical of such phones.

There is even a browser Opera for those who miss the Internet on a small screen. But you will have to go online through 2G, no other standards are provided. But that's not the point.

The main thing is there snake. Alas, not the same as before, but pumped by Gameloft, but also very addictive. The primitive app store allows you to install Twitter and Facebook, but putting such apps on 3310 is like insulting its very essence.

Take a break from social networks, play Snake, call your relatives, take a photo with a simple camera, shake the old days. A 1200 mAh battery with a month of standby time and 22 hours of talk time will allow you to mock the 3310 in different conditions.

For whom

So who needs this phone for 4 000 rubles, which does it cost in Russian retail? Nostalgic fans? To old people? Youth tired of social programs? Fashionable hipsters and geeks who follow every mobile novelty?

All questions can be answered simply: YES.

This phone is for everyone and for no one at the same time. He appeared to shake up the dull modern world of huge screens, dual chambers and space performance.

Articles and Lifehacks

The question is how to set date and time on nokia, worries many owners of such mobile devices, as well as the question of what and why it is needed.

Today cellular devices, released by this company, work on the basis of 3 main platforms - Windows phone 7, Series 40 and Symbian. You should be aware that the order and method of setting depends on which system the cellular device is running under.

Nokia also started a small experiment last year to migrate from Asha to Android platform. Besides, mobile devices working under Android control, do not have support for Google services. It is noteworthy that their design is taken from Windows Phone.

Setting the time and date to Nokia phones, powered by Series 40

If our cellular device works on this platform, first we will find the menu button. As a rule, it is located under the display of the device. If there is no such key, press the button located on the joystick in the center.

The menu should have an option "Time and date". Most often, it is easy to find it through the general settings / parameters. The location of this item depends on which model of the device we use.

To change the date and time, we also use the central button of the joystick. We prescribe the exact time and date (you can first check with the time and day on desktop computer). We confirm the changes we have made.

For regular time synchronization with base station button is used automatic update(if any).

Often, on the day when the transition to winter time was previously made, a failure is possible. Even though this transition has been cancelled, some stations are still tuned in the old way. It is in connection with this that our device needs to be synchronized. When automatic updates are enabled, the configuration is no longer required.

Setting the time and date on Nokia phones running Windows Phone and Symbian

If we use the Symbian platform, the time and date settings are done by us in the same way as in the case of the Series 40. This method differs only in how we enter the menu of the device. Most often, a separate button with an empty square and a circle is provided for the call.

Device owners on Windows base Phone 7 also often worries about how to set the date and time on Nokia. This also applies to Lumia series phones. Also of interest is the question of which SIM card is used in the device.

If we use such a cellular device, we should find the settings tab on its desktop. Often the button looks like a gear on a red background. In the menu that opens, select "Time + date" and make the settings by checking the exact time and date. Save changes

You can enable synchronization by activating the "Installed automatically" item.

It should be noted that the described method is universal for all devices based on Windows Phone 7.

Simple phones - a seemingly dead category, continue to be in demand. Nostalgia, price, working time and the banal lack of need for more functional solutions are pushing people of different ages and professions to buy "dialers". Today we will talk about probably the only mobile that can arouse general interest in 2017 - the updated Nokia 3310.

HMD Global, which owns the rights to the Nokia trademark since December 1, 2016, decided to release not only Nokia smartphones 3, 5, 6, but also try to play on the feeling of nostalgia of all fans of the brand. Thus, the new Nokia 3310 appeared - the reincarnation of the popular phone, which received the status of "indestructible" for its reliability. IN we have already said that the phones that entered the market with a difference of 16.5 years have little in common, but the novelty still deserves a separate review.

Design

The appearance of the new Nokia 3310 can be described as "simple inexpensive phone". The case is made of plastic, its middle is slightly wider, and it narrows by a couple of millimeters towards the top and bottom parts.

Additionally, this effect is emphasized by a plastic insert of light gray (almost white) color - it is the same for all phones, but the "back" and the area around the keyboard can be blue, gray, yellow or red. The first two options are matte, the last are glossy.

In terms of build quality and materials, the smartphone leaves a controversial impression, especially considering the price. There are no global problems - the fitting of parts is accurate, there are no huge gaps, everything is holding up normally. On the other hand, with strong pressure, the lid can bend and, if desired, you can achieve creaking of the plastic - a piece of foam material, initially glued under the lid, does not save you from this.

The lid is fastened with snaps, there is a notch for a nail at the bottom for more convenient opening. Under it - removable battery, which hides two MicroSIM slots and a separate MicroSD. The right slots for the first SIM and a memory card are ordinary, the left one for the second SIM is spring-loaded.

The phone has enough simple design- the battery exposes the backside printed circuit board, immediately under the cover are visible hex bolts and latches that fix the body halves.

The layout of the elements on the case for such models does not change: almost at the very top of the front panel there is a small hole for a separate speaker, immediately below it is the inscription Nokia, then the screen, then the keyboard. The microphone was placed to the left of the "8" key. Top right - microUSB for charging and connecting to a computer, bottom - 3.5 mm jack. Behind: a call speaker, a camera and an LED that can act as a flashlight.

The flashlight is far from the brightest ...

In part, I would like to see separate volume keys on the case, an eyelet for attaching a strap or a diode located on top - with this arrangement, it would be more convenient to use a flashlight.

Screen

The Nokia 3310 has a regular 2.4-inch TFT display with a resolution of 320×240 pixels (QVGA), supplemented with a polarization layer. The plastic covering the matrix has a slightly convex shape, which makes the image look more voluminous.

The display is color, "usual" quality. Brightness is adjustable within five gradations. Readability outdoors is average, the presence of a polarization layer is not too noticeable - in the shade the information is clearly distinguishable, but in the sun you have to adjust the angle or cover the screen with your palm. People with vision problems will not like it much.

Keyboard

The keyboard of the new Nokia 3310 consists of 16 keys: 12 numeric keypad, two double function keys, a "joystick" with a confirmation button inscribed in it. There are embossed dots on the top two function buttons and around the "5". The white backlight is uniform, but the "joystick" is not highlighted.

The convenience of such keyboards is subjective, it seemed to me average. The buttons have a slightly short travel with a noticeable click. They are not the largest, but have a slightly convex shape. It was more convenient for me to press them with my fingernail or the edge of my finger, but not with the whole pad (due to the size).

Operating system, functionality and applications

Updated "legendary" phone runs on Nokia platform Series 30+. With "that Nokia" it has only a slight visual resemblance. The platform was developed by MediaTek specifically for regular Nokia phones.

The menu can be represented by a list, or by 3*3 and 4*4 matrices. It includes the following items: call log, contacts, photos, internet, messages, snake (game), Mobile Store, my apps, camera, apps and games, music, weather, radio, video, settings, notes, calendar, calculator, alarm clock , additionally (timer, stopwatch, flashlight, converter), my files, a voice recorder, counters (number of minutes, messages, data for each SIM), a forwarding setting item between two SIMs (one radio module here) and a SIM menu for each of kart.

The list is impressive, but each item is implemented as simply as possible. For example, the phone can store up to 2000 contacts. Each can be assigned a name (24 characters) and one phone number, as well as a picture (or photo from the camera). You can't assign a separate ringtone to a contact, and there's no functionality for groups or anything like that. There is a speed dialing function - holding any of the number keys can be assigned to dial the selected number / contact.

Contacts can be blacklisted. For a quick transfer of the address book, for example from a smartphone, you can use the Bluetooth contacts copy function, but in this case only the numbers entered in the "Mobile" field are copied.

Text entry is possible both character-by-character and using T9.

On " home screen» The top navigation key turns on the flashlight, the bottom one gives you access to the calendar, the side buttons are responsible for quickly writing SMS and open the calendar. The right multifunction key launches the camera, the left one - a kind of list " quick access» (the number of items and their order can be configured).

The phone can work with memory cards up to 32 GB, so you can record music on the card and listen to it through regular headphones or a speaker. There is an FM radio without RDS (the headphones act as an antenna). A player with a radio can work in the background - in this case, playback control keys are displayed on the initial screen.

Despite the fact that Nokia 3310 can only work in 2G networks, the phone has an application for viewing the weather, a pre-installed browser Opera Mini and theoretical support for J2ME applications. First of all we are talking about about the pre-installed "snake", as well as several games that can be installed from the built-in store (paid). An attempt to install the first few applications downloaded from Google was unsuccessful, they simply did not start.

With Bluetooth 3.0, you can transfer files (SLAM function) and connect wireless headsets.

Communication quality and operating time

Towards the end of the life of "that Nokia" budget models brands were produced with one single speaker, performing the role of both calling and conversational, which had a bad effect on the quality of communication and comfort of communication. Luckily, this fate was spared by the new Nokia 3310, which received two separate speakers.

In general, their quality can be called average, normal. Call speaker - familiar "polyphony". A ringtone with familiar motives will be heard from a trouser pocket, a bag or an adjacent room.

At the same time, the vibration alert is rather mediocre and not too powerful, especially for such a light body.

The speaker retains recognizable notes of the voices of the interlocutors, its volume is sufficient for talking indoors and on a not too noisy street. Communication is quite comfortable. There were no complaints about the operation of a single microphone during testing. At the same time, a modern mid-range smartphone will still provide a slightly better connection, both due to the presence of an additional microphone for noise reduction, and thanks to the “wide” speaker grid. The device normally "holds" the network.

The implementation of Dual-SIM functionality is the simplest. You can select a card for accessing the Internet, and before each call or sending a message, you will have to choose which SIM card to use. You cannot set default options for a specific number or for calls/messages.

The phone is powered by a 1200 mAh removable battery (BL-4UL). According to official data, it will last for 22 hours of calls, 31 days of standby time, 39 hours of radio listening or up to 51 hours of music listening. After a week of testing with a minimum number of calls and one active SIM, the charge indicator showed about 40% - the usual autonomy for such devices.

Camera

Nokia 3310 follows modern trends, so a simple phone could not do without a built-in 2 megapixel camera (no autofocus).IN this case you can’t talk about quality, the camera performs an important function “just to be”.

Slots modern smartphones, as a rule, support nano-SIM. The Nokia 3310 slot is designed for micro-SIM cards, so this can be tricky. Recently, operators have been offering multi-format cards in a mini-SIM shell, from which you can squeeze out a card of the desired size. If the shell is saved, you can insert a nano-SIM into it. If not, you will have to buy an adapter or change the SIM card from your operator.

2. Opening the back cover may break your nail

To start using the Nokia 3310, it is necessary, as in the good old days, to install a battery and a SIM card into it. To do this, you have to open the cover on the back panel. To do this, as it turned out, is not easy. The plate is pressed so tightly that some reviewers even broke a fingernail while peeling it off. Be careful.

3. Nokia 3310 does not have WhatsApp and Viber

The device works on operating system S30 +, which does not support instant messengers, although it allows you to connect to the Internet. Therefore, the habit of chatting will have to be abandoned in favor of SMS. If you have been fed up with chats for a long time, but you can’t part with them, then the Nokia 3310 will help you cope with.

4. You can still log into Facebook

Through the Opera browser preinstalled on the device, you can access mobile versions sites. It can be Facebook, VKontakte or any other site that has an adapted version. True, it is unlikely that you will be comfortable working with them on a small screen and through painfully slow 2G Internet.

5. Buttons are awkward to use

If you've owned a touchscreen smartphone for several years now, interacting with the new Nokia 3310 will be tricky at first. Surely you will catch yourself more than once tapping your finger on the screen in an attempt to open desired program or follow the link. In a few days you will get used to it and the problem will disappear.

6. "Snake" has changed

If you are going to buy a Nokia 3310 in the hope of playing that same "Snake", then you will be disappointed: the "Snake" is no longer the same. The famous game was reworked: the design was changed, bonuses, booby traps and a leaderboard were added. However, she didn't get any worse.

7. Nokia 3310 lasts a long time without recharging

4G, Wi-Fi, touch screen - all this energy-consuming baggage is absent in the Nokia 3310, so a 1,200 mAh battery lasts about a week of normal use. Official figures: 607 hours of standby time, 22 hours of active use.

8. You will need a memory card

Nokia 3310 can, unlike its predecessor, play music from storage and take pictures with a 2 megapixel camera. But 16 MB internal memory phone is enough for no more than 12 shots (excluding music). Therefore, if you want to use the device as a player, you will have to buy a microSD card.

It sounds crazy, but the excitement around the old-new Nokia 3310 can be compared to what is happening during the presentations of flagship smartphones from new brands. Both at MWC in Barcelona and at the official presentation in Moscow, everywhere the Nokia 3310 of 2017 was without a doubt a star. The news about its appearance, and then about the start of sales in Russia, immediately soared to the top of Yandex - this also says something. So HMD Global and Foxconn - namely, they released the new Nokia 3310 - did, no doubt, ingenious marketing ploy.

And although even just turning it in his hands, it becomes that the old man is no longer a cake, it is simply impossible to resist getting to know her better.

Let's not deny ourselves this pleasure.

Specifications Nokia 3310

It is impossible to get away from comparisons with the classic Nokia 3310, so the characteristics in the table are given for two phones at once: on the right - for the new, model of 2017, on the left - for the old one.

Appearance and equipment

A simple cardboard box, in Chinese style, the colors are cheerful, only Pikachu is missing.

Inside, everything is concise: the phone itself, a battery, instructions in Russian, a charger for Micro-USB 2.0 and a headset.

The first impression about the phone itself is that it is VERY small and light. The new Nokia fits in your hand like a toy. And it looks very unimportant. If you remember the Nokia 3310 with nostalgia as a brick, forget it.

Our hero is blue, a classic of the genre. In addition, it is practical: there is a suspicion that the glossy variants of the case - yellow and red - will very quickly lose their original appearance.

To insert the battery and SIM card, you have to open the cover by lifting the connector from below, and this is not very easy. When opened, the plastic bends and a loud click is heard. It's scary, but it's okay.

Under the cover there are two slots - on the left is a single slot, where a SIM card is inserted, on the right - a double one, you can insert both a SIM card and a memory card into it at the same time.

The Nokia 3310 has a power connector on the top, and a headphone port on the bottom.

Above the screen is a speaker. On the back cover are located, I quote the instructions, a loudspeaker, a flashlight and a camera.

To turn on the phone, you need to, as before, press and hold the power button under the screen.

Nokia 3310 keys and menus

For some reason, the default date in Nokia 3310 is 10/1/2015. If I were the manufacturer, I would put the year 2000, of course. It would be beautiful.

The screen displays information about SIM-cards, date, time and incoming information. You can control the phone only with the keys, the screen is not touch, and this, of course, is very confusing at first. I remember in which button control combined with touch, which made it very easy to switch to it from a smartphone.

The buttons themselves are small, but generally comfortable. The only (and very sad) exception is the central selection key, with which you can enter the menu. Scrolling up and down with it is still nothing, but in order to scroll left and right, you will have to adapt to pressing exactly on the edge, otherwise it works like "ENTER".

There are a lot of things in the menu: Call Log, Contacts, Photos, Internet (when clicked, the Opera Mini browser is installed), Messages, Snake (yes!), Music, Mobile Store, My Apps, Camera, Radio (only works when a headset is connected that performs role of the antenna), Settings, Weather, Calendar, Alarm clock, Notes, Voice recorder, Files (photos, notes and voice recorder recordings that can be saved to the phone memory or memory card), Calculator.

There is also a menu for managing SIM-cards, Counters (in it you can see statistics on calls, SMS and MMS, as well as data transfer) and the Advanced menu (here you will find a timer, stopwatch, flashlight and converter)

The icons are generally intuitive, confusion can only arise with the icons of the browser and the Mobile Store, they are very similar. The menu display itself can be customized by showing icons in a 3x3 and 4x4 grid or in a list (taking into account problems with central button list is the best.)

The most used applications are hung on the left functional button, by default it is access to photos, key lock, turning on the flashlight, volume settings, device settings. Menu lists can be changed or moved around the list.

Pressing the right functional button turns on the camera, in other cases it acts as a Back key.

The biggest disappointment with the Nokia 3310 is…

... the absence of a Wi-Fi module.

This is understandable, because the new Nokia 3310 is built on the Series 30+ platform. Recall that Nokia recently (before switching to Windows) had four main platforms: Series 40 for advanced push-button and touch devices, Series 30 for budget devices, Series 60 for Symbian smartphones and Series 80 for laptop smartphones on the same Symbian (and there were such).

So, the new owners of the Nokia brand inherited the Series 30+ platform (well, that is, Series 30 on steroids) with a very truncated set of modern software components, essentially limited to the player, camera and Bluetooth tools.

Therefore, you will not find in the Nokia 3310 a Wi-Fi module, high-resolution video support, or alternatives Opera browser Mini, and you will have to download applications from the Opera Mobile Store, and this, believe me, is an extremely painful process.

At this point, I would like to ask the manufacturer a question - was it really impossible to install at least a minimal set of applications, the same messenger, for example? A classic, a classic, but still, in 17 years, a lot has changed in our ways of communicating.

Communication and connections

There is no Wi-Fi, but what is there?

There is support for 2G networks, that is, you can access the Internet, but it will load slowly, not to mention how “convenient” it is to surf the Internet on such a tiny screen. There is a Bluetooth module, but in practice it was not possible to connect to any of the available Nokia 3310 devices.

On the other hand, the Nokia 3310 connects to a computer via a USB connector without problems, and you can easily transfer information to a memory card or, conversely, from it. You can also charge your phone via the USB port.

Camera and picture quality Nokia 3310

2 megapixels - what is there to talk about? Everything is bad, of course. But at HMD Global they tried to make everything like the “big ones”. The camera menu has a video function, and brightness adjustment, and even photo effects (you can shoot in black and white, sepia, green and blue, and invert colors). You can still shoot in night mode and even serially. With all this, there is no focus button, sorry.

Video is even worse.

Sound and Signals

You don't have to be a music lover to understand that the sound of the new Nokia 3310 is terrible. The speaker distinctly wheezes, and how the headset wheezes at the maximum volume level is better not to hear at all.

I liked only one thing, how touching the manufacturer calls to save your ears as soon as you try to make the sound louder.

By the way, the downloaded melody can be set as a signal for incoming call, messages or an alarm clock, if the standard ones do not suit you (they are really so-so).

Like any self-respecting push-button telephone, the new Nokia 3310 has several modes of operation - normal (sound and vibration), silent (completely turning off all sounds, including the sound of keystrokes), quiet (short ringtone and minimum volume), outdoor (maximum sound) and personal ( customize as you like). Any of them can be set temporarily by setting the end time of the mode in the settings.

Most importantly - what about the Snake?

She is. But this lurid something with a wild sound looks like a mockery of the good old "Snake".

Here's what it looked like on the official video.

And here's what it actually looks like.

Nokia 3310 - buy or not?

I have never had such a hard time answering this question.

On the one hand, the new Nokia 3310 is a phone designed for no one knows what and no one knows who. The peers of the "old" "Nokia" simply will not understand him, nostalgic citizens will quickly be disappointed.

On the other hand, I repeat, it was an extremely successful marketing move - to play on our nostalgia and our curiosity. Because it is incredibly difficult to resist and not try what it is, this Nokia 3310 of the 2017 model.

So if you have an extra 4 thousand rubles - buy it. But don't say later that you weren't warned.

Advantages:

  • quality assembly
  • painfully familiar design
  • polyphonic melodies

Flaws:

  • lack of Wi-Fi module
  • disgusting sound
  • bad camera
  • mutilated "Snake"
