Windows. Viruses. Notebooks. Internet. office. Utilities. Drivers

You have been using a laptop for more than a year, there have never been any problems with charging - and then the surprises began. The first question that usually arises is: “Why is the laptop connected to the network, but the battery is not charging?”.

It seems that there is nothing terrible, the device works! But at the same time, it ceases to be a convenient mobile device, because for work you will always need to look for a free outlet. And in this case, how will it differ from a desktop computer ?! Unfortunately, technology is not eternal and it tends to break down and fail at the most inopportune moment. As a result, we turn to service centers and specialists.

Let's start to figure out what could be the reasons that the laptop battery has stopped charging. No need to panic and immediately carry it in for repair or run for a new battery.

Reset battery settings

Sometimes problems with battery charging can be caused by software problems with the laptop itself. To exclude this item, you must reset the battery settings in the BIOS in the following order.

1. Disconnect the device from the power supply: remove the plug from it and disconnect the power supply from the network.

2. We take out the battery: for this you need to move the two latches on the sides of the battery.

3. Press the power button and hold it for about a minute.

4. We connect the power supply to the laptop and the network, while the battery does not need to be inserted back.

5. Turn on the device and go into the BIOS: for this you need to press the button or Delete, or F2, or F12.

6. We are looking for the item "SET DEFAULTS" or "Setup (Restore) Defaults" and save the settings by clicking "Save and Exit".

7. Turn off the laptop: hold the power button for 5-7 seconds.

8. Disconnect the charger from it and insert the battery back.

9. Connect the charger and turn on the device again.

If this method worked, then hovering the mouse over the battery icon in the tray, we should see the inscription: the battery is connected and charging.

Faulty power supply

Another reason why the battery on the laptop is not charging may be a problem with the power supply.

To do this, turn off the device and unplug the power from the outlet. Remove the battery. Insert the power plug into the laptop and the plug into an outlet. Now turn it on. If it does not work, then the reason is most likely in the power supply or its cord. It is also possible that the plug of the power supply has become loose and, as a result, the contacts are coming off. Conclusion one: it is necessary to replace the power supply.

Removing "useful" programs

Normal battery charging can also be prevented by the power management program that was installed by the manufacturer. Look for the program in the tray. In this case, the battery icon will be slightly different from the usual system one. In such programs, a mode is often implemented that provides the maximum battery life. Considering that modern operating systems are able to independently determine the mode of its use and charging, it is better not to install such applications.

Need to be replaced

Well, if none of the above listed suits you, then, of course, the most common problem is the physical deterioration of the battery.

The fact is that modern lithium-ion batteries can withstand approximately 800 recharge cycles. And with each charge, they lose a little capacity. Therefore, in any case, in two or three years you will have to replace the battery on your laptop.

So we examined the main reasons: why the battery on the laptop is not charging. Treat it with care and remember that sooner or later, you will still have to replace the battery.
