2 2. Mastering the basic techniques of working with vector graphics Practical part Exercise 1. Working with curves. Commands Alignment, Position, Distribution Let's create a drawing using the basic commands and concepts of vector graphics: curves, fill, placement of objects relative to each other Open the Text Effects Gallery panel on the Drawing Panel. Choose the text effect that suits you and create a "Hello" caption. Figure 1 Figure 2 From the Symbol Shapes collection, select the Cloud image. Paste it on the slide, and enlarge it to the desired size. Coming through context menu(appears when clicked) right click mouse on object) 2 out of 15

3 do Area. In the window that appears, on the Gradient tab, create a new gradient fill, give it a name. Figure 3 The cloud has been repainted. 1. Right-click and select Convert To Curves from the context menu. 2. The figure has acquired new properties. Create two copies of the resulting object. Please note: new objects are placed on top. 3. Next, work with the Modify Geometry panel. Selecting clouds in turn, work with nodes: move them, change their properties (nodes can be angular, flat, symmetrical), change the position of the curvature handles. Some nodes can be removed. Thus, it should turn out three clouds of different shapes. 4. Use the Align and Arrange commands to achieve a similar picture: 3 of 15

4 Figure 4 5. Recolor the Flower symbol shape. Using the tools of the Object of curves panel, draw a stem and a leaf (the shape can be adjusted in the nodes), setting the parameters for the line thickness and the color of the line and fill. "Collect" the flower, group its parts, choose the size. Figure 5 6. Make several copies of the flower and place them in a row at the bottom of the picture. In this case, you need to use the Align and Distribute commands. Sample drawing: 4 of 15

5 Figure 6 Exercise 2: Create an organizational chart Create an admissions committee chart. 1. On the Drawing Panel, select Process Diagrams. Draw a large rectangle, then two smaller ones inside it at the bottom. 2. Select all objects and execute the Modify Align Center command. 3. Draw another Process element on the right. Select it and the first large rectangle. Execute the Edit Align Middle command 4..Select the top small rectangle and execute the text command from the Drawing Panel. The cursor will appear. Enter the text "Members of the selection committee." Enter the rest of the labels in the same way. Format them. 5 out of 15

6 Figure 7 5. Select the Connector line command from the Drawing toolbar. On the sides of the rectangles, the designations of connection points appeared. For our case, we need to add connection points. To do this, in the Drawing Panel, select the Connection Points command. On the panel that appears, set the Insert junction point mode and add points in the right places. Figure 8 6. Draw the necessary connecting lines by selecting the appropriate style options for them. 6 out of 15

7 Figure 9 Independent work Draw a block diagram using the algorithm above. Figure 10 7 of 15

8 Exercise 3 - Merging Objects 1. Insert a 12-pointed star object on the slide, holding down the Shift key to get the correct shape. 2. Copy and paste the resulting object. Recolor it and scale it down a bit. Figure Select both objects and execute through the command Modify Align Middle, then the same commands, but now Center (you can use the context menu). The object created later is in the foreground. Picture Select both objects. Execute Modify Merge. Empty spaces appeared in places where objects overlapped. The resulting object took on the properties of the lowest object in the placement order. At 8 out of 15

When the combined objects are separated, the properties of the original objects are not preserved. Exercise 4: Building Shapes You can create shapes by using the Unite commands and the Modify Shapes Unite/Subtract/Intersect group command. The commands in the Shapes menu only work for 2D objects. Constructed shapes take on the properties of the lowest object in the placement order. Get the shapes below. Figure 13 Exercise 5. Combining 3D objects 1. Insert a 3D ball object using the 3D Objects toolbar. Holding while drawing Shift button, you can get an ideal sphere in shape / Figure 14 9 of 15

10 2. Change the gradient fill of the ball through the Area context menu (right-click on the Area object), creating your own gradient with the parameters as in the figure below. Close the dialog box. Picture Right-click on the 3D Effects object. On the Illumination tab, change the settings as shown. Close the dialog box. Drawing from 15

11 4. Copy and paste the resulting object. Hold down the Shift key and increase its size. 5. Select the second 3D object and select the Edit Cut options. 6. Double-click the first object to add it to the group. 7. Select the Edit Paste options. Both objects will now become part of the same group. Figure Double-click outside the group to leave the group. 9. Edit Paste again, adding another object to the group. 10. With all three balls selected, do Distribute Vertically Middle. 11. Next, following the algorithm described above, create another three-dimensional cone object. Change its gradient fill, expand it. 11 out of 15

12 12. Complete the drawing at your discretion with other elements. Figure 18 Exercise 6. Converting bitmaps to vector graphics B LibreOffice Draw You can convert a bitmap image to a vector graphic. 1. Copy the poppy image below and paste it onto the LidreOffice Draw slide in the usual way via the clipboard. 12 out of 15

13 Image Right-click on the bitmap, select Convert To Polygon, set the conversion options for the image, and click OK. 3. The image is now a group of vector objects. Right-click on the Split picture. 4. When selecting objects, you can now use the Modify Geometry tool to manipulate the nodes that appear along the contour of the object and perform all operations available for objects of vector type. Reshape the leaves and recolor them in a brighter color. Exercise 7: Replacing Colors To replace colors with the Color Replacement tool: 1. Paste the picture in a bitmap format (for example, BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG) or in a metafile format (for example, WMF). 2. Select Service Color Replacement. 13 out of 15

14 3. Click the Color Replacement icon and hover over the color you want to replace in the image. This color will appear in the box next to the Color Replacement icon. 4. Click a color in the image. It will be shown in the first box, Source Color, and a check mark will be placed next to the selected color. 5. In the Replace with field, select a new color. This color will replace the original color in the image. Replace three more colors by checking the checkbox in front of the Original color field on the next line in the open dialog box and repeat steps 3 to 5. 6. Click the Replace button. 7. If you want to expand or shrink the color picker, increase or decrease the tolerance of the Color Replacement tool and reselect. The figure shows Libre Office Draw v 5.1.5 (2000-2016). The interface and help are multilingual (there is a Russian language).
Libre Office Draw is included in free package Libre Office programs ( Wikipedia about Libre Office).

The package includes programs:
LibreOffice Writer - Microsoft type text editor Office Word
LibreOffice Writer (web) - web page editor
LibreOffice Draw - image manipulation software
LibreOffice Calc - spreadsheet creation
LibreOffice Base - working with databases
LibreOffice Impress - presentation software
LibreOffice Math - a program for creating mathematical formulas

Works on Windows, Linux, Mac.

Libre Office Draw

The main purpose of Libre Office Draw is vector drawing. Additionally, the creation of web pages.

You can create multiple pages in the editor. The page can be provided with hyperlinks, numbering, descriptions, etc.

The program has a whole set of vector objects that can be inserted on the page - straight lines and lines of arbitrary shape, lines with arrows, rectangles, ellipses (circles), various vector shapes, various stars, callouts and more. There is a large gallery of special icons and thumbnails.
In addition, you can insert text, diagrams, diagrams, images, video, sound, slides, a file, a frame, a table, date and time fields (including changeable ones), create a link, etc. on the page.
There is a spell check feature for pasted text. You can also apply effects to text (i.e. create artistic text) and create animated text.
An image can be inserted from a file or from a scanner.

The shape of the inserted objects can be adjusted by dragging the nodes.

Objects can be rotated around an axis, flipped horizontally or vertically, positioned in different layers, alignment, vector image can be converted to bitmap, fill (color, gradient, texture), shape distortion, 3D transformation and more can be applied.

Saving a picture for later editing - in odg, otd, sxd, std, fodg formats.
Saving created (export) in html, flash (swf), pdf, bmp, emf, gif, jpg, jpeg, png and others formats.

Website creation

Saving Libre Office Draw as html pages creates a set of pages, images, navigation buttons, etc. For those who want to quickly create a site consisting of a few simple pages, Libre Office Draw can be even easier and more convenient than a specialized program from this package is LibreOffice Writer (web).
For example, a site has been created that consists of two pages (see the figure above).
The main page of the site is a page with a set of miniatures - reduced pages of the site. Clicking on a thumbnail opens the corresponding page.
An example of a simple site, created in Libre Office Draw.

The LibreOffice Impress presentation program, which is part of the Libre Office package, is very similar to Libre Office Draw in terms of features and methods of work.

I. Organizational and motivational stage

Greetings, fixing absentees.

Today we will continue to study graphic editors. This is very interesting topic. In previous lessons, you have already heard about vector graphics. Today we will consider graphic editors with which vector images are created. Practical work awaits you, during which you will learn how to use the basic tools of a graphic editor and create simple images.

II. Updating of basic knowledge

Let's remember what you talked about in the previous lessons.

What types of computer images do you know?

Raster and vector

How is a raster image obtained?

A bitmap image is created using dots of different colors - pixels, which form rows and columns. Each pixel can take on any color from a palette of tens of millions of colors, so bitmap images provide high fidelity for colors and halftones.

What is the feature of raster images?

Raster images are very sensitive to scaling (enlargement or reduction). When a raster image is reduced, several neighboring pixels are converted into one, so the clarity of small image details is lost. Increasing it increases the size of each dot and produces a stepped effect that can be seen with the naked eye.

    How are vector images formed?

Vector images are formed from objects (point, line, circle, rectangle, etc.), which are called graphic primitives. For each primitive, coordinates are specified, as well as a color. That is, each such object can be mathematically described.

What is the main advantage of vector graphics?

The advantage of vector graphics is that vector graphics can be enlarged or reduced without loss of quality. This is possible, since the scaling of images is done by simply multiplying the coordinates of the points of graphic primitives by the scaling factor.

III. Stage of assimilation of new knowledge and methods of action

We remembered the main issues related to computer graphics. Now let's figure out what vector graphics editors are.

Vector graphics editors

Vector graphic editors are used to create drawings, diagrams and drawings using graphic primitives. A vector graphics editor can be viewed as a graphic designer that allows you to build an image from individual objects (graphic primitives).

Vector graphics editors include a graphics editor built into Microsoft Office Word. It is on his example that we will get acquainted with vector editors.

The vector image is easy to edit, since each graphic primitive exists as an independent object. You can move this object, change its size, color and transparency.

Object layers.

Each graphic primitive is drawn on its own layer, so drawings consist of many layers. Graphic primitives can be superimposed on each other, while some objects can obscure others. For example, if the sun was drawn first, and then a cloud was drawn on top of it, then the cloud layer will be located on top of the sun layer and the cloud will obscure the sun.

Very conveniently, the vector graphics editor allows us to change the visibility of objects by changing the order of the layers in the drawing. To do this, reorder operations are used, which allow you to move the selected object to the front (to the topmost layer of the picture) or to the back (to the bottommost layer of the picture), as well as one layer forward or backward.

Another feature of vector editors is changing the degree of transparency for each object (drawing layer). The degree of transparency is indicated as a percentage from 0 to 100%. If the transparency of the layer is zero, the object drawn on the layer below will not be visible. On the contrary, with 100% transparency, it will be completely visible.

Grouping of objects.

In the vector editor, individual graphic primitives can be converted into a single object (grouped). With this new object, you can perform the same actions as with graphic primitives, that is, move the object, change its size, color, and other parameters. You can, and vice versa, split an object consisting of several objects into independent objects (ungroup).

For example, the Olympic emblem can be drawn using five circles of different colors. Then, by grouping them into one object, you can change the size, proportions and color of the entire Olympic emblem.

Do you know what the 5 rings in the Olympic emblem mean?

Five intertwined rings of blue, black, red (top row), yellow and green (bottom) colors are a symbol of the five continents united in the Olympic movement. Proposed in 1913 by P. de Coubertin.

For greater accuracy in drawing objects in the editor window, rulers with divisions are placed horizontally and vertically.

A grid is used to align drawn objects horizontally and vertically. You can make the grid visible and also resize its cells.

Main vector editors

A simple vector graphics editor StarOffice Draw is part of the integrated StarOffice office application, a convenient vector editor is built into the text Microsoft editor Word, to create drawings and diagrams, you can use the KOMPAS computer drawing system; CorelDRAW is the most common among professional vector graphics systems.

Today we will get acquainted with the built-in Microsoft application Word graphics editor, which is vector.

Before drawing, you need to make sure that the application window has the Drawing toolbar.

How to call toolbars?

View - Toolbars - ...

Let's take a look at the tools on the Draw panel.

The Draw menu allows you to perform various actions with image objects. For example, you can group, rotate, flip, reorder. Another possibility is the display of grid lines, which allows you to place objects symmetrically, at equal distances, i.e. improves the accuracy of constructions.

The arrow allows you to select and highlight objects.

The menu item Autoshapes opens access to all autoshapes, with the help of which we will build images.

Behind them are the icons Text, Add WordArt, Add Chart, Add Image, Fill Color, Line Color, Font Color, Line Style, Line Pattern, Shadows Menu, and Volumes.

You will need many of these tools when doing practical work.

IV. The stage of primary verification of understanding of the studied

1. Why is it possible to change the visibility of objects that form a drawing in vector graphics editors?

2. When is it useful to use the object grouping operation?

3. What vector editors do you know?

4. Name the features of the vector graphics editor, which are its advantages.

V. The stage of application of knowledge and methods of action

Now let's look into practice and learn how to use the drawing tools of a vector graphics editor.

VI. Stage of correction of knowledge and methods of action

Checking and correction by the teacher of the correctness of the practical work.

VII. Homework information stage

VIII. The stage of summing up the lesson

Summing up the lesson with the teacher's comments on the work of the class and individual students.

Grading.

IX. Reflection stage

Why is the lesson interesting? What would you like to change? How do you rate your work in class?
