Want to upgrade to Windows 8.1 but don't see the update in the Windows Store? Are you getting installation errors? Or does the update get stuck at some point during installation? Although Microsoft has tried to provide absolutely everything, errors and other problems are always inevitable, especially when millions of users want to install the software.

If you're using Windows 8 or Windows RT and you're having trouble finding an update in the Windows Store, you probably need to install an update KB2871389. To find out if you have this update installed: Go to Control Panel, click System and Security, and then select Windows Update. Next, try to find this update in the update history.

You can also visit this page on the Microsoft website to download an update that prepares your system for a successful upgrade to Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1. (You will also find the necessary instructions on the web page).

If you have the KB2871389 update installed and still can't see Windows 8.1 in the Windows Store, try getting it to show you the update. To do this, open a browser Internet Explorer and click on this link: ms-windows-store:WindowsUpgrade (this is what worked for me). Microsoft's servers are under heavy load right now, so if you get an error, just be patient and keep trying.

If the download is stuck at 20%, 70%, or 90%, for example, I would recommend that you try installing a little later, because, again, Microsoft servers are under heavy load and such a problem occurs most likely for this reason.

If you get an error code 0x80070057, 0x80070004 0x4000D when you try to update, then the problem is probably related to your antivirus or other software security. Try disabling or uninstalling your antivirus to resolve this issue.

To resolve the error message "Failed to update to Windows 8.1 0xC1900101 - 0x20007" after the installation process stopped at 76%, try disconnecting your iPhone or other unnecessary peripheral from your PC.

If the Windows Store shows a message that your PC is not compatible, open the Run dialog (Win + R), type WSReset.exe and press Enter. If this does not resolve the issue, download and run the Microsoft Run Apps Troubleshooter to resolve the issue.

And a few more tips:

Disable unnecessary peripherals

Disable any devices that may be causing the problem Windows installation 8.1, including printers, external hard drives, USB devices, etc.

Remove third party apps

Uninstall any applications that may interfere with the update process. For example, antiviruses, old programs and programs that you rarely use.

Free up more space on your hard drive

This is a suggestion, not a requirement, but make sure you have at least 10 GB of free hard drive space.

Windows Update

Make sure you have everything installed Latest updates Windows. It is possible that the lack of the latest patches from Microsoft is the cause of your problem when upgrading to Windows 8.1.

Advice: if you started the update download process in the Windows Store, but do not see the download progress, open the "Run" dialog, enter the command ms-windows-store:installprogress and press Enter.

Have a great day!

Until now, letters are coming in about questions about Windows 8, or rather the transition from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. To begin with, I propose to disassemble what is in Windows 8.1 and whether it is worth updating. As for whether to update or not, definitely update, because Windows 8 is not a very successful Microsoft project (to put it mildly, not quite successful), so they improved Windows 8 and made a big update to the operating system and called it Windows 8.1. In particular, with the new update, the long-awaited "Start" button appeared (although when it is pressed, the Metro interface opens, but nevertheless), it became possible to load the Desktop when the computer boots by default (instead of Metro), in Windows 8.1, the changes also affected the start screen, now you can set four sizes of tiles on the start screen and much more...

In this article, I will describe step by step how to upgrade windows 8 to windows 8.1.

To begin with, I will clarify some details in the upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1:

1 Installing the Windows 8.1 update using the Windows Store is free and does not require any additional licenses.

2 your files, classic apps, user accounts and settings will be saved.

3 Installing Windows 8.1 32-bit requires 3000 MB, and Windows 8.1 64-bit requires 3850 MB of free space on drive C.

Knowledge bases should be installed in the following order: clearcompressionflag.exe, KB2919355, KB2932046, KB2959977, KB2937592, KB2938439, KB2934018.
Knowledge Base KB2919442 is a prerequisite for Windows 8.1 and must be installed prior to installing KB2919355.

If you want to install any of the modern versions of operating systems, be it Windows 10 or Windows 7, users have problems that drive them into a stupor. Here is an example of such a problem.

You insert a disk into the drive, or an installation flash drive into a USB connector, boot from them and see the boot of a particular system. Next, the installer window appears, where we must select the disk for installing Windows. There are some parameters that we could use, but we don't need them right now. As soon as we click the "Next" button to start installing Windows, the worst happens - an error "The installer was unable to create a new or find an existing system partition» .

There is an insanely simple fix on the internet. It is as follows: you get an error and immediately remove the flash drive or disk, and then close the installer by clicking on the cross. Next, we install again, try to install the Windows we need, get the same error, close it. Now we need to insert the installation USB flash drive or disk again and start installing Windows.

Unfortunately, this method, described just above, no longer helps, but there is another one.

In order not to engage in such nonsense as poking a flash drive, restarting something, etc., there are more effective method. Its essence is that you need to transfer the files from the USB flash drive on which Windows is located to the disk or partition where you were going to install it. In other words, we make the future system partition an installation disk, on which we will install Windows. And now let's move on to practice.

How to solve the error "The installer could not create a new or find an existing system partition"?

Quick and easy, you just need to carefully read the instructions from this article.

  • Insert into the computer and boot from it;
  • When the disk selection window appears, press the keys Shift+F10, to open the command line;
  • The command line now uses the DISKPART disk utility, then we write the command: list disk. This command shows all disks connected to the computer. We are looking for the desired disk in the list (you can navigate by volume) and remember the number;
  • select disk=0. With this command we select a disk. Digit 0 is the number of the dick from previous command yours may be different.

When choosing a drive, be very careful, I recommend disconnecting other hard drives so that there are no problems later.

  • Next, we execute the command create partition primary size=XXXXX. In the place "XXXXX" you must enter the size of the system disk on which you will install Windows. In other words, a new partition will be created;
  • select partition=1. Displays the partition of the disk we have selected;
  • active. The selected section becomes active;
  • format fs=ntfs quick. This command will quickly format the drive in file system NTFS
  • assign. This command will assign a letter to the section, if it is not specified on its own, then the next free letter will be selected;
  • exit. Exit the DISKPART utility.

So, we have completed all the necessary commands to create a partition for installing Windows, but now we need to transfer the files from the flash drive to this partition.

  • Open the command line again. You need to find out what letter your flash drive with Windows is. With the cd command. That is, on the command line, you must enter, for example, "cd e:", where e: is the letter of the installation flash drive. ;
  • You are in the directory of the flash drive. Write a command to copy files to system disk: xcopy e: c: /e /h /k;
  • You need to go to the boot directory already on the partition itself, not the flash drive: cd boot;
  • Using the bootsect command, we will create a boot code on the system drive: bootsect /nt60c:. Where c: is the system drive, be careful, you may have a different letter;
  • We made a system partition boot disk. Now you can remove the flash drive, restart the computer and install Windows on the same disk. After installation, you can delete the installation files.

After installing Windows and booting it up, there are a few things that need to be adjusted.

  • Open command prompt as administrator;
  • We register the command bcdedit;
  • Among the results of the command, find the line Windows Setup, where we copy identifier;
  • Next, write the command bcdedit /delete (identifier).

Now you can use Windows without problems.

Additional option

Alternatively, to resolve this error, you can use boot menu if this feature is supported. When you insert a USB flash drive, it may come first in the order of disks, or you yourself did it, because of this, Windows wants to write the MBR table not to the disk we need, but to the USB flash drive, but nothing comes out, since it is used you. Perhaps this is the reason for the above error.

To solve it, you can put the disk that will be the system one in the BIOS in the first place, if it is not already there, then go to the Boot Menu (not in the BIOS), and simply boot from the installation flash drive. Of course, it is not certain that this method will help, but the attempt is not torture, you will not lose anything from this. The boot menu might look like this:

In this manual, all the steps for installing Windows 8.1 on a computer or laptop will be discussed in detail. It will be about clean install, not about .

In order to install Windows 8.1, you will need a disc with the system or bootable flash drive with the system, or at least ISO image with OS.

After the reboot, the installation will continue. First, you will be asked to enter your product key (if you have not already entered one). You can click Skip here, but keep in mind that you still have to activate Windows 8.1 when you're done.

The next step is to choose a color scheme and specify the name of the computer (it will be used, for example, when connecting the computer to the network, in your Live ID account, etc.)

On the next screen, you will be prompted to install the default Windows settings 8.1, or customize them as you wish. This is up to you. Personally, I usually leave the standard ones, and after the OS is installed, I configure it in accordance with my wishes.

The last thing you need to do is enter the username and password (password is optional) for the local account. If your computer is connected to the Internet, by default you will be prompted to create an account. Microsoft entry Live ID or enter the data of an existing one - address Email and password.

After all of the above is done, it remains to wait a bit and through a short time you will see home screen Windows 8.1, and getting started with some tips to help you get up and running faster.
