Nowadays, almost everyone can create, edit and share videos with less time and effort. What made this change possible dawn handy tools for video editing. Combining and Editing Videos [Manual Method]

As we mentioned earlier, you must bring the original video files into the tool and merge them to form a new one. To do this, first you must create new project. From the creation projects window, you have to select the Import video and images option along with the technical requirements such as resolution, frequency and width of the output video.

In the next window, you will need to import the required source files such as videos and images! You can use file browsing or drag and drop method. Also, you can drag transitions from the above sections and place them in-between two selected videos/images.

Once you click on the "Apply Settings" button, the tool will take you to the core scene editing! With the help of the window, you can apply multiple elements to the video, edit the visual properties of the video - such as color tone -, special effects for the video, insert music, shapes, etc. In other words, in this section, you can customize the video, especially if you have a little more knowledge about the technical aspects of video output. In addition, you have the option to view the scene in your preferred resolution.

After setting up, you can export the video in a convenient format. Screen recording and video recording

In the recording screen mode, you have to select the video output resolution, select the recording area, and it will start recording the screen for a few minutes. In our experience, we didn't encounter any issues during screen recording and the quality of the output file was good. On the other hand, in the case of video capture mode, you can use an external source to record video with customizable options. These two options are significantly productive, in fact.

Our Verdict

In our experience, the performance of VSDC Video Editor is somewhat impressive, which is good if your first concern is to create satisfying videos without any in-between sluggishness! This lack of sluggishness can also be seen during the installation of VSDC Video Editor and it only takes a few seconds. In addition, VSDC Video Editor does offer some "recommended" software that can be accessed during the last step of the installation. However, this feature may vary depending on the country you belong to! However, if you can access this set of free software then it will be a big deal, actually. When we consider the fact that the installation file size is only 27MB, you may also wonder how the tool runs so smoothly on your computer.

VSDC can rightfully be called one of the best amateur video editors for editing home videos. This wonderful program has collected a lot of positive qualities. It is compact, functional, free and works quickly even on very weak machines. Everything seems to be nothing, but there was a fly in the ointment in a barrel of honey. And this spoon was the unique interface of the editor. The fact is that the developers were so carried away by the design of their creation, wanting to make it as unique as possible, that they forgot about many standards, creating a very peculiar (in some places) interface. But how can you blame people for wanting to highlight your product? Perhaps it will be easier to understand how it works, so that later you can enjoy working with video.

In this article, we'll walk you through how to work with VSDC Video Editor in detail, starting with the most basic features: video splitting, trimming, text overlay, importing and exporting files.

By the way, we are constantly adding new functionality and release new versions of the program several times a year. So before you get started, make sure you have installed latest version VSDC from our official website. That is, from here.

How to Import Videos to VSDC

There are several ways to import files into VSDC. First, once you run the program, start screen you will see the "Import Content" button (see illustration above). This method is convenient because the program automatically determines the file parameters and adjusts the parameters of the entire project in accordance with them. After you select a file from your PC through File Explorer, a pop-up window will appear where you can enter a project name, change the resolution, frame rate, and other options. When all the data is entered correctly, click "Accept".

You can also add files to the project as needed directly from the working window. To do this, use the "Insert Object" buttons located at the top of the menu and on the left side (see image below). If you import files this way, pay attention to the pop-up window with object and layer position settings. Using the Layer Position menu, you determine whether the new file will be added to the current layer or to an adjacent one.

The "Add Layer" option will place the file on a new layer on top of the others. The "Insert Layer" option will place the file on a new layer directly below the selected one. The Paste to Layer option will add the file to the current layer sequentially.

And of course, you can use hot key combinations:

  • Shift + I - to import an image
  • Shift + A - to import an audio file
  • Shift +V - to import a video file

How to split a file into fragments, rotate and crop video at the edges in VSDC

All basic operations with video - cropping, rotation, splitting - are performed using the buttons in the menu quick access"Delete and split" located at the top of the interface (illustration below).

The very first tool - scissors - allows you to quickly trim the excess and is convenient when you need to cut the beginning or end of the video with one click. Just place the cursor at the point from which (or up to) you want to trim and select "Delete from the beginning of the object" or "Delete to the end of the object" in the drop-down menu to the right of the scissors icon.

If you need to split the video into parts, use the following icon - the razor image. This tool works in a similar way: you need to place the cursor on the appropriate point on the timeline and click on the “Split into Parts” button. Keep in mind: in order to delete one of the fragments, you first need to click on an empty spot on the timeline to deselect the entire file (otherwise you will delete the entire file), and then select the desired fragment and click Delete. Detailed instructions for splitting videos into parts have been published in VSDC.

Finally, the tools menu includes two buttons to rotate the video 90 degrees. Everything is quite intuitive here: just select the file you want to expand and click on the icon with the appropriate direction. If you need to make a turn to a non-standard angle, we have written more for you.

How to apply effects and add transitions in VSDC

In VSDC you will be able to create different type effects, many of which are applied in one click and do not require editing experience. The effects menu is located at the top of the program interface, in the Video Effects tab. Here you'll find Instagram-style color filters, tone, contrast, and brightness adjustments, transform effects, transitions, and transparency.

To apply an effect to a video, click on the clip and select the desired effect from the menu. A new tab will appear on the timeline, including all the effects applied to the selected fragment. Here you can adjust the duration of the effect, the moment it appears and disappears. Other effect parameters can be adjusted in the Properties Window on the right.

The same rule applies to transitions. Place the cursor where you want the transition to start, select the transition from the drop-down menu, and set the duration manually.

How to remove audio from video in VSDC

If you need to completely remove an audio track from a video file, do the following:

  • Click on video clip right click mice
  • In the menu that opens, select "Properties"
  • Go to the Properties window that opens on the right
  • Scroll down the menu and find the "Audio track" section
  • From the dropdown menu, select "Don't play sound"

You can also click on the "Split object into video and audio" button (located there in the Properties window) and as soon as the audio track appears on the timeline as separate file, click "Delete".

How to add text over video or image in VSDC

VSDC has a built-in text editor with which you can create stylish titles and various effects using letters. To overlay text over video in VSDC, go to the menu on the left side and select the “T” shaped icon. Select "Text" and place the cursor on the Stage where you want the text to be placed. After you've finished typing, use the editor (top menu) to adjust the size, color, font, and other settings just like you would with a regular text editor.

You can move the text object with the mouse using the drag and drop method, and other parameters - including the moment of appearance, duration and disappearance - are configured in the Properties Window. Detailed instructions about how to work with text in VSDC, we published.

Before you export your video to VSDC, make sure everything looks the way you intended. To do this, use the red preview button above the timeline on the left. If the video freezes during playback, reduce the quality of the picture (drop-down menu to the right of the preview button). Freezing indicates that the computer does not have enough resources to process such a volume of information in real time. However, this does not affect the export result and the quality of the saved video in any way.

Once everything is ready, go to the "Export project" tab and select the desired format. For your convenience, VSDC has a variety of export profiles preconfigured for a variety of tasks. For example, if you plan to upload videos to YouTube, select "Internet" - "For YouTube" and the program will automatically apply the best settings to your project. Typically, the file is saved in the “C:\Users\Owner\Videos\” folder. However, you can change both the location and the name of the file by clicking on the "Change Name" button located on the right below the preview window.

After everything, click on the red round button "Export project" and wait until the conversion process is completed. If during the export process you see a banner offering to use the Pro version, you can either purchase an annual subscription or continue working in free version by clicking on the "Continue" button in the lower right corner.

VSDC Free Video Editor for Windows - free editor, which offers professional functionality for video and audio editing. The program is an alternative to the paid editor Sony Vegas Pro, which we wrote about.

In our review, we will tell you about what this editor can do, what formats it works with, what basic and professional functions the program has.

Download and installation

You can download the program on the official website at download section. Pay attention to the bit depth of your system - and download the exe file for your OS. Find out what bit your operating system(x32 or x64), you can from .

Run the installation file and follow the prompts until the final installation. At the end, the program will update the Visual C++ libraries for the correct operation of the utility.

System requirements

Usually professional video editors are demanding on computer hardware. The developers of VSDC specifically created a program that will work without brakes on low-power computers.

For the utility to work, you need:

  • processor with a frequency of 1.5 Hz;
  • 256 MB RAM;
  • about 50 MB of free disk space;
  • installed DirectX 9.0c.

And it's all. When compared with the same Sony Vegas, the requirements are very affordable. The Sony Vegas editor requires a multi-core processor with a frequency of at least 2 Hz, 4 GB of RAM (8 GB is recommended) and at least 500 MB of disk space.

The VSDC editor will work on even the most budget $200 laptops.

First meeting

This is the interface that opens after the first launch of the program. The editor is completely in Russian, so it will be easier for beginners to work. And in general, according to many professional reviewers (Remontka, iXBT), you can even work with the program using the "poke method" - and it will still work out.

The description of the program says that VSDC is a non-linear video editor. The developers clearly explain what this means.

The non-linearity of video processing in VSDC Video Editor is similar to the non-linearity of image editing in Photoshop. That is, the installation process does not go strictly from A to B, but can have a bunch of branches. For this, layers have been created, the ability to overlay different objects on top of each other, mixing colors, creating transparency on different layers, etc.

If we click on the creation of an empty project, we will be prompted to set it up: give a name, enter data about the author and apply basic parameters - resolution, frame rate, background color, transparency, project dimensions, etc.

This is what it looks like working space newly created new project.

Description of basic features

Basic functions available without special education- everything is clear, the interface in Russian is understandable. For amateurs who need to quickly and without any special effects to mount a video, VSDC will be the best option.

So, with this video editor you can:

Developers have given even more opportunities for professional editors. Lots of professional features. We will talk about some of them - those that seem important and interesting to us.

So, here is a small list of VSDC professional features:

  • The video editor supports 3D video processing;
  • you can adjust the color of the video using a gradient;
  • a large number of filters - blur (on the frame, stack blur, in motion), filters like in Instagram, etc .;

Here, for example, is how they use chroma key in VSDC - they remove the green background in the video in order to leave only a person in the video or add some other background.

VSDC Video Editor Pro

The video editor can be upgraded to Pro versions. The main difference from the free version is the ability to process videos at a higher speed (hardware acceleration). According to the developers, this is why users activate the paid version. Now it costs $ 20, the subscription period is for a year.

Look at the screenshot what other bonuses the owner of a paid subscription gets.
