Windows. Viruses. Laptops. Internet. Office. Utilities. Drivers

We all know that a newly installed operating system works much faster than an old system with many different applications installed. However, the joy of the speed and stability of the new OS quickly disappears when it turns out that all your favorite games and frequently used programs were removed along with the old OS. Today we will share our knowledge on how to avoid losing programs and games when reinstalling the system and how to correctly transfer programs to another computer.

The modern world and modern technologies have forced us to look at the concept of moving differently. If previously we associated only a change of residence with this concept, now we also associate a change of operating system. In one case or another, a lot of problems are associated with moving (moving things/programs, setting up a new meta/updating, setting up configurations, installing programs, applications and games).

The most difficult task when migrating to a new OS is to transfer to it what is necessary for work software , all kinds of applications, files with personal data, of course games, multimedia libraries, email client messages and settings of installed programs.

A classic move to a new PC or new OS looks something like this: the user deletes the old operating system, formats the partition hard drive and installs a new OS into it, let’s say Windows 8. After this, the most tedious, long and tedious work begins: installing programs necessary for work (of which there can be a large number), favorite games, transferring personal files to the new OS. Everything would be fine, but this approach takes a lot of time, and most importantly nerves, and no one is immune from losing any files or important correspondence in this routine once and for all... The question arises: how to speed up and simplify process of moving to another computer or new OS? Is it even possible to do this? Nothing is impossible, there is one solution or another for everything.

Today we will tell you about what programs exist for transferring applications and user data to a new OS. In addition, we will analyze the difficult moments when moving, and also decide what data needs to be transferred and what not.

Difficulties when transferring programs to a new OS

The most difficult thing when migrating, no matter to a new OS or to another computer, is transferring programs and their settings. Normally copying a folder with program files installed in it is unlikely to be useful in this situation; it will only work with portable programs. Regular copying will inevitably lead to loss of application functionality for a number of reasons:

  • At the time of installation of programs, various program files are written to the system for the entire HDD, V different folders(Windows, Programs Files, Document and setting, Common Files, etc.). Of course, you can collect all these files manually if you try, but then you will have to put them all in their own folders in the new OS.
  • Having transferred the application to another computer in this way, when it starts, it will certainly begin to access Windows registry in search of the keys necessary for operation, which are written in it when installing the program. Of course, when accessing the registry, the program will not be able to find the necessary entries in it, as a result of which it will work with errors, if it can start at all. For this reason, in addition to program files, it is also necessary to transfer records system registry.
  • After installing those programs that are “tied” to the hardware, some of their files and registry keys contain information about the current system configuration. By transferring such a program to another computer, the configuration of which is different from the old PC, you can not expect normal operation from it, or, for example, activation.
  • Archives of mail messages.
  • “Saves” of games.

What data needs to be transferred to the new OS from the old one?

  • First of all, of course installed programs, such as office packages, programs for editing images and video files, translators, mail programs, browsers, archivers, in general, all those that we use every day.
  • User files, including working documents, photo and video archives, file archives, music libraries, e-books etc. When transferring of this type data, an ordinary flash drive or USB disk can help. For them, simple and sequential copying (PC-Flash drive-PC) is sufficient. But there is another way, for example, using Windows programs Easy Transformer (we will give it a separate review).
  • Archives of mail messages.
  • Bookmarks and “Favorites” of browsers.
  • “Saves” of games.

What data cannot be transferred?

Unfortunately, not all information can be transferred to another PC, even when using specialized tools. Of course, you can try to be more precise, but the result will not be guaranteed. Most often, some applications fall into the category of such data, for example:

  • Device drivers - cannot be transferred to another system. After installing the OS, they will have to be installed again, since the system configuration will be changed. It is customary to prepare drivers in advance, before starting to install a new OS.
  • Complex software packages, for example, such as 3ds Max Design. Current Package Of course, you can try to transfer applications, but in most cases the attempts will be unsuccessful. In addition, when transferring such application packages, you may need to re-activate them by entering license key. If a program is tied to a hardware, then it is unlikely to be reactivated on another hardware.
  • Antivirus and other software to protect the system from viruses. Popular antiviruses such as Kaspersky Internet Security, Norton Internet Security or Avast Internet Security, when installing, I take into account all the features of the operating system, working at the level of its kernel. For this reason, antiviruses, in principle, cannot be transferred to another system.
  • Some data simply may be incompatible with the operating system to which it is being transferred. For example, the commercial program PCmover immediately warns the user about incompatibility with music that is protected by digital rights.

In order not to bore you with reading, we decided not to include reviews of data transfer programs in this article. There are enough programs for this, and for some of them reviews are already being written with examples of how they work. Therefore, soon, we will continue to develop the topic of transferring programs to another computer or operating system.

Hello friends. Many of you who often reinstall Windows or manage several computer devices have probably wondered if there is a way to transfer installed and configured programs from one system to another. This refers to classic Win32 programs - antiviruses, browsers, office products, games, etc. Many of the programs provide for the export and import of settings, profiles, projects and other work data. Popular browsers even have synchronization services that allow user profile to full working order in seconds. But all this, whatever one may say, is a lot of separate manual operations. Is it possible to make sure that all programs with their settings move from one Windows to another, regardless of its version, in just one operation? This is possible using the PCmover program from Laplink.

Transfer installed programs from one Windows to another using Laplink PCmover

The PCmover program from the German company Laplink, as the Germans themselves say, is unique - the only one in the world software product, which can move installed programs from one Windows to another. In general, the data moved by the program includes:

User profile files;

System settings (those at the system level, not related to the user profile);

Installed programs (except UWP applications) along with their activation, profiles, settings, content.

The principle of transferring all this is to create a snapshot with the specified data captured in the old system and deploy this snapshot in the new Windows environment. At the same time, system Windows files, as with a traditional backup, are not replaced.

And these are not the only features of the PCmover program. In addition, it also provides functions for data backup. Supported Windows versions 7, 8.1 and 10. The program is paid, costs 2200 rubles. Her official website:

http://ww3.laplink.com/landingpages/pcmv10/rus/main.html

But it also has two drawbacks - there is no trial and support for the Russian language. Therefore, below we will understand its work in detail. Well, let's get started.

Preparing on an Old Windows System

So, for example, I was going to reinstall Windows. And I want to transfer system settings like local group policy and working software into the new system. On the old system I install the PCmover program. I'm launching.

The welcome window states that you need both the old and new new system the same version of PCmover itself was used. Click “Next”.

Here the program warns us that it will not help us in every case due to circumstances beyond its control, such as: incompatibility of programs with other versions of Windows or copyright protection individual programs and media files. We are also told that drivers will not be transferred as part of this procedure. And that in the new Windows environment there should not be trials of portable programs. We tick that we have read all of this. Click “Next”.

Now we need to select the function we are interested in. This is migration. Select and click “Next”.

Here we are told to close all active programs and playable files that will participate in the transfer. And we must tell PCmover which computer it is - the old one from which we need to transfer programs and system settings, or the new one to which we need to transfer all this. Choose old computer- "Old computer". Click “Next”.

At this stage, you need to select a method for transferring programs. He can be:

Via local network;

Via Ethernet cable from Laplink for 40 bucks + delivery from Germany;

Through a special file;

Via USB cable.

I will be reinstalling the system, so I will choose the method using a special file - “File Storage Device”. This file is a working program file with a “.pcv” extension, something like a regular backup file that stores a snapshot of the data. This method can also be used when transferring a program and system settings to another computer. Only, friends, this snapshot file will weigh quite a bit, in my case, for example, about 5 GB. Therefore, you will need either a capacious flash drive, or a USB-HDD, or large files over the Internet. Go ahead.

Next, PCmover offers us a problem. To ensure a faster transfer operation, the program offers us to take a snapshot in the new system, then move this snapshot to the computer with the old system and indicate the path to it in the “Snapshot” column. If I'm going to reinstall Windows, I don't have this snapshot and can't have it. And even if there was, I still wouldn't bother with it. Overall it will take longer. I click “Skip this step. Do not use a snapshot" to skip this step. Let's move on.

Now you need to specify the type of data to be transferred:

Full - everything in a row (system settings, programs and files);

Files and Setting only (only files and system settings);

Files only.

To transfer programs, I have no other option other than the first one - Full.

At this stage, you can configure the details of transferring individual programs such as Outlook Express or Microsoft Word. It's all individual. Click “Next”.

A couple of seconds of searching - and we will see a list of all software detected by PCmover that can be transferred to new Windows. In the list by default, the checkboxes of system components, which are different for each version of Windows, are unchecked. And the third-party software checkboxes are all checked. Here we can uncheck those third party programs, which we don’t need in the new system.

The next stage is the selection of disks. I have one drive here - C. But if there were other drives - D, E, F, etc., I would need to click on them and click the "Exclude" button so that all the contents of non-system drives are not included into the volume of data being moved.

At this stage, we can eliminate unnecessary system junk - temporary or archive files. To add your own type of files stored on drive C, which should not clutter up the new Windows, click “Add” and enter the extension as shown in the screenshot.

And this is a form for specifying name and postal address data. PCmover can send a message to it when the operation of creating a snapshot file “.pcv” is completed. I do not need it.

Now we set the path to save the “.pcv” file. In my case, the path is shown on the desktop, I will then transfer the file to network storage. But you immediately specify the path on a non-system drive.

If necessary, PCmover can split the file into parts. I do not need it.

And here we are at the final stage of the process. The program warns us that this process will not be quick. Click “Next”.

In my case, it will last, as we see from PCmover’s calculation, about 25 minutes. We wait.

And “Done.”

All. Anyone who transfers programs and system settings to another computer can move the “.pcv” file to that same computer. I'll reinstall Windows.

Implementing programs and system settings in the new Windows

After Windows reinstallation and installing the missing drivers, I first install PCmover. I'm launching. I'm going through the greeting stage.

how to download programs from a computer to a flash drive, so that you can transfer them to a netbook later??? and got the best answer

Answer from Kaktuz[guru]
Click right click mouse over the file or folder that you want to move to another location, that is, copy. In the list that opens, click on the item “Copy”.
After this, you need to open on your computer the location where you want to transfer the file or folder. It could be Local disk D, My documents, flash drive or floppy disk.
Then right-click on an empty space (white field) and select “Paste” from the list.
That's all. Now this file or folder is in two places - both in the place where we got it and where we moved it.
That is, if you look at it, it turns out the following: you opened the place from which you want to take the file (for example, opened a flash drive), right-clicked on the file you need, selected the “Copy” item from the list, then opened the place where you want to transfer this file (for example, opened My Documents), right-clicked on the empty one and selected “Insert”. In general, nothing complicated.
And now I will show how this is done with an example. Only we will transfer not one file or one folder, but several at once.
In order to copy several files (folders), you must first select them. Here's how it's done:
Place the arrow (cursor) on the empty space next to the files and folders you want to transfer.

Click left button mouse and, without releasing it, draw a rectangle around the required files and folders. When they become colored, it will mean that the files and folders are highlighted. Release the left mouse button.

Now let’s copy the selected files and folders:
Right-click on any selected icon (file, folder). A list will open from which you need to select “Copy”.

Then you need to open on your computer the location where you want to place these files and folders. This could be Local Drive D, My Documents, a flash drive or a floppy disk.
And finally, right-click on an empty space (white field) and select “Paste” from the list that appears.

All! Files and folders were moved to a new location. That is, they are now in two places: both where they were originally and in a new place
Don't be alarmed, everything is not as complicated as it seems at first glance. You just need to practice a little. Good luck!

Let's imagine several situations that every PC user periodically encounters.

Situation 1. You bought new computer and now you want to transfer all the data from your old computer to it. How to do it?

If you have a spare HDD of sufficient capacity, then you need to copy all the information from the old PC to it, connect it to the new one and start the copying process again.
In this way, you can only transfer user files and folders, but if you try to transfer installed programs this way, they will not work - they must be reinstalled.

Situation 2. You want to update the operating system version, for example, switch from the already outdated Windows XP to Windows 7 or 10, but at the same time maintain the settings and functionality of the programs already installed on your PC. How to do it?

In both the first and second cases, the EaseUS Todo PCTrans program will come to the rescue, which has a lot positive feedback online, and which can be easily mastered by anyone, be it a beginner or an advanced user.

Supported Operating Systems

Todo PCTrans works for everyone operating systems Windows family from XP version to , including Windows Server. However, transferring data from computer to computer is only possible if both PCs have identical versions of Windows or data is transferred from a PC with more old version OS on PC with newer one, for example, from Windows 7 to Windows 8 or 10. Thus, it is not possible to transfer data from Windows 7 to Windows XP.

Direct data transfer between two computers

1. In order to copy all the necessary files and installed programs between two PCs, they must be connected to each other one LAN networks, wired or wireless. Both should have the Todo PCTrans program running and the “Via network connection” option selected:

3. In the next window, you need to select what type of data you want to move: Applications or User Data. By clicking on the square icon you can specify specific directories and folders:

By clicking the “Transfer” button, the data migration process starts.

Transferring data through creating an image (backup)

This method is useful when you need to update the OS on one computer or laptop, saving all the settings, or when connecting two PCs to one network to transfer data between them (as in the first case) is not possible.

1. Launch the Todo PCTrans program on your computer and select the “Via an image file” option. In the next window, select “Create the image file”.

2. Specify the desired folders and applications, click the “Save” button.

3. Copy the created image to a second PC, run the program on it and select “Via an image file” -> “Transfer from the image file”.

4. Start the copy process.

Difference between FREE and PRO versions

The difference between FREE and PRO is that in free version The program can be configured to transfer only two applications. The Professional edition license retails for $49.95.
