Windows. Viruses. Notebooks. Internet. office. Utilities. Drivers

Some of the myths surrounding Windows optimization haunt us in articles, websites, and tweakers. However, they have nothing to do with reality, so following these tips can only do harm. Here are examples of such myths.

Disable QoS to free up 20% bandwidth networks

This tip is used by people who are sure that Microsoft always allocates 20% of the network bandwidth for windows update. According to the instructions, you need to turn off QoS and free up bandwidth. Unfortunately, this advice not only doesn't help, but can add to the problems with applications that use QoS, such as streaming media and VoIP.

Here is Microsoft's official response: “Many articles and newsgroup posts claim that Windows XP always reserves 20% of available network bandwidth for QoS. This is not true… One hundred percent of the network channel is available to all programs unless one of them requests channel priority.”

Allow Vista to use multiple cores to speed up boot

This false advice came out recently, and almost everyone believed it. According to him, in the msconfig utility, you need to modify the value in the "Number of processors" drop-down list on the "Load" tab. In fact, this value is only used for troubleshooting and debugging purposes, to identify a problem with a particular processor, or so that the programmer can test his code on a multi-core system. Windows uses all processors by default without this setting.

Clearing the Prefetch Folder for Faster Loading

The Prefetch Application Prefetch feature in Windows XP caches parts of applications you frequently use and tries to optimize the download process to make applications launch faster, so when many sites began advising periodic cleanup to speed up downloads, it seemed good advice… but, unfortunately, incorrect.

The preload function is actually used as an index to tell Windows which parts of the application to load into memory and in what order to speed up the application startup, but Windows doesn't use this information until the application starts running. There is also a limit of 128 files that can be stored in the Prefetch folder at any time, and Windows itself automatically cleans this folder, deleting information about unused applications. In addition, the right defragmentation utility uses Prefetch information to optimize files on the disk, making them even faster to access.

Cleaning the registry improves performance

The Windows Registry is a large database with almost every setting for every application on your system. It makes sense that clearing it would speed things up, right? Unfortunately, this is just a marketing hoax to sell registry cleaners, and the reality is not at all like that… Registry cleaners only remove a very small number of unused keys, which doesn't help performance considering the hundreds of thousands of other keys in the registry.

This is not to say that these utilities are completely useless, of course. I would still recommend cleaning the registry when you're trying to fix a problem with uninstalling problematic applications that leave registry entries, but you should use a verified application and verify the keys being removed.

Clearing memory with "Process tasks in free time".

At this point, you should already be slowly beginning to understand... If something sounds too good to be true, it is most likely a hoax. Another tip is that you can create an “undocumented shortcut to the Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks command, which will clean up memory by processing all the tasks that take up memory in the background.

What is the problem? These tasks don't actually wait in the background. This command actually tells the computer that you are away and that it can process tasks while the computer has time to spare. But you didn't leave. The real purpose of this function is to run all the tasks before running the benchmarks so that they time correctly, and the Microsoft documentation says this: “When called from the command line, ProcessIdleTasks runs asynchronously in the background. Background tasks may take 10 to 15 minutes to complete. The task manager reports running processes, and the disk may be active at this time.”

Clean, defragment and speed up RAM using Super Mega RAM Optimizer
Look at any software site and you'll find thousands of programs that promise to "optimize memory to speed up your computer." Don't believe! Almost all of these programs do the same thing: they call the EmptyWorkingSet() function, which forces applications to send data from memory to the page file, or they allocate and free up a huge amount of memory for themselves, so that Windows has to swap other applications.

The result is an apparent freeing up of memory, but in reality you have just traded your space-fast RAM for a slow disk. As soon as you have to return to the application you are working with, you will want to throw out the computer and trample on its mortal carcass.

Disabling the Shadow Copy and System Restore service improves performance

There don't seem to be any websites with advice on Windows Vista, who do not advise turning off the System Restore service to speed up work, because it uses up to 15% of your disk by default. This seems like good advice. But this is bad advice.

In reality, System Restore only works when you install an app or update, or at a scheduled time of day, and automatic restore points are only created when you're not at your computer. This is critical because it allows you to restore the previous state of the machine, getting rid of problems.

Instead of disabling System Restore to free up space, use the Disk Cleanup Wizard to remove all but the last restore point.

Enabling SuperFetch in Windows XP.

Someone decided to spread the myth that you can enable SuperFetch in Windows XP by adding the same EnableSuperFetch key used in Vista to the registry. This advice is completely false.

Disabling services (services) to speed up the computer

The most common myth is the advice to remove all unused services. I understand that this can cause controversy, so to clarify: disabling non-critical services that are not part of Windows can sometimes lead to increased performance if you determine that these services are causing problems. You can identify and disable these services in the Services tab of the msconfig.exe utility.

The problem with disabling services is that your devices can stop working afterwards, and it's hard to pinpoint the problem if it doesn't show up right away.

Do not turn off built-in Microsoft services in Windows, except in certain situations:

Superfetch- this caching service preloads applications into memory and really helps. However, it causes intense work hard drive, which is annoying and annoying, especially on laptops.

Windows Search- if you are using another local search engine, you don't need this service and turning it off can really improve performance.

Windows Defender- if you use another anti-malware product, you don't need this service either.

Most recently, we published an article on our website on the Windows Registry, which explains what it is and how important it is to keep it in order. Indeed, the speed and uninterrupted operation of the operating system, as well as the effectiveness of the interaction between the software and hardware components of your computer, directly depends on the state of the registry.

Unfortunately, over time, almost any OS begins to show a decrease in the speed of its work, which is expressed in an increase in system load, application launch time, inexplicable freezes and thoughtfulness when simultaneous launch multiple programs. In addition, users may encounter the constant appearance of dialog boxes reporting files not found in the specified folders and other incomprehensible errors.

One of the ways to return the system to its former nimbleness, or at least significantly increase the overall speed of work, turn to special programs that clean up all kinds of system junk, which is often the cause of all the troubles described above.

MAIN PURPOSE OF PROGRAMS

The work of almost any user on a computer is always accompanied by the procedure for installing or removing various kinds of software, be it device drivers, programs general purpose, games, antivirus solutions and others. During all these actions, the system constantly makes entries in the registry about all the parameters of installed programs, their locations and other important things.

Unfortunately, the process of uninstalling applications does not completely clean the system of their former presence. As a rule, after removing programs, a lot of “traces” of them remain in the system registry in the form of incorrect links and paths or unnecessary entries. Over time, there are more and more of them, which ultimately leads to a general decrease in performance, errors and other troubles.

The main purpose of programs designed to improve your system is to clean the registry of accumulated debris and remove temporary and unused files from your computer's hard drive. It is these two functions that underlie this class of utilities. True, in the struggle for the sympathy of users, many developers are trying to make their products, especially paid ones, more attractive by adding additional funds optimizing the system and setting its parameters.

TESTED APPS

For testing, we have selected 8 of the most popular freeware and shareware programs in this area. Their degree of popularity was determined based on the most downloaded and rated applications of this kind on well-known software file sharing services. And also based on the frequency of mentioning these applications on various thematic portals and blogs.

So, our top eight are:

  • Reg Organizer
  • Vit Registry Fix
  • jv16 PowerTools
  • TweakNow RegCleaner
  • Auslogics Registry Cleaner

The program is able to clear hard disk space from junk files, such as temporary files different browsers, browsing logs, cookies, recent documents, Index.dat files, and many more. Also, if necessary, the user can clean the clipboard, thumbnail cache, recycle bin and Windows log files.

The second important function of the program is to check the status of the system registry and fix the errors found in it.

Additional features include the ability to uninstall programs, change startup, manage system restore points, and securely erase free disk space.

Reg Organizer 5.3

Multifunctional program for maintaining the system registry and configuration files. Before version 2.5 this product was distributed free of charge for users from the former USSR. Now its cost for residents of the CIS is 500 rubles per copy.

Reg Organizer is equipped with sufficiently rich functionality that can satisfy the needs of both novice users and professionals:

  • Fixing registry errors and cleaning it
  • Defragment and Compress the Registry
  • Show important registry keys
  • Enhanced Registry Editor
  • Registry snapshots
  • Disk Cleanup and Troubleshooting
  • Uninstalling programs
  • Fine settings systems

Vit Registry Fix

A powerful tool for ridding the registry of obsolete data and more than 50 options for all kinds of errors. The program has both a paid version (170 rubles) called Professional, and a free version with the Free prefix.

In its composition, Vit Registry Fix has 6 additional utilities, with the help of which it is possible to: optimize the system registry files (Registry Optimizer), create full or partial copies of the registry (Registry Backup), as well as search and delete data in it (Registry Search). The developers did not bypass the side and such useful features, like, cleaning temporary and unnecessary files (Disc Cleaner), managing applications in Windows startup (StartUP Manager) and deleting installed programs(Uninstall Manager).

The free version lacks two utilities: Vit Registry Backup and Vit Registry Search, and also has basic functionality and error search capabilities, compared to the professional edition.

jv16 PowerTools

This full set a variety of utilities that combines 24 components designed to monitor the status of your computer and, if necessary, fix the problems found. The program has trial period 60 days for a free trial. For further use, you will have to pay $29.95.

Immediately after installation, a pleasant interface catches your eye, which can be simple for beginners and advanced for advanced users.

The functionality of the program is really rich. For convenience, all components included in this package are divided into several thematic groups:

  • Registry. Using the utilities of this group, you can clean the registry of unnecessary garbage, compress it, search for and replace the necessary components, and also get detailed information about it. There is also a registry monitoring tool, and a backup tool has been placed in a separate group.
  • The File Management section contains various tools with which you can save your HDD from unnecessary files, restore files, and search for files, folders and their duplicates. This also includes a file organizer.
  • The system section contains a program uninstaller, startup manager, service manager, start menu cleanup manager, and system optimizer.
  • With the help of security utilities, you can clear the history lists favorite apps and wipe the contents of certain folders, the entire hard drive, or just free space.

TweakNowRegCleaner

Another comprehensive program that cleans the registry and hard drive. The developers ask for $24.95 for their brainchild, although before buying you can use the utility for 30 days for free.

The program interface is devoid of the Russian language, although it is quite understandable and concise. Quick optimization window, offers users, without going into details, in automatic mode optimize system settings and Internet connections, clean the registry, remove temporary files and traces from web browsers.

If the result of quick optimization is not satisfactory, you can go to the system cleaning window, where at your service standard set components: purification and analysis disk space, registry defragmenter, registry cleaner, startup manager and program uninstaller.

In addition, with the help of TweakNow RegCleaner, you can find out details about system parameters, as well as monitor fresh versions video card drivers.

Auslogics Registry Cleaner

This utility is highly specialized and is aimed at optimizing only the system registry. It will help remove unused keys from it and get rid of errors. Moreover, the program is completely free.

The application interface is very concise and understandable, which can be explained by low functionality.

Wise Registry Cleaner

Another free specialized utility for cleaning the system registry and defragmenting it. On startup, it prompts you to create backup registry in case of system failure after the optimization procedure.

The application interface seems somewhat old-fashioned and does not have the Russian language, however, if desired, it is possible to download the crack. The program does not clean up the hard drive, although at the end of the installation it offers to download another free application - WiseDiskCleaner, which is designed specifically for this.

As additional function, users are offered the opportunity to perform system optimization on 19 parameters.

AMLFree Registry Cleaner

A free computer optimization program that has a classic set of functions for such utilities.

The interface of this application does not know the Russian language and does not shine with originality. But, in addition to the standard cleaning of the registry, users will be able to delete temporary files from the disk, edit the list automatic download and uninstall unnecessary applications.

TESTING METHODOLOGY

To test our subjects, we specifically chose a computer with a fairly heavily littered Windows system 7, which was installed about a year ago. Before testing, a backup copy was made system partition, OS registry and measured system boot time. To exclude all kinds of errors, the Windows start time was measured three times and averaged. The size of the saved registry was also fixed.

Then, the test utility was installed. With the help of it, the system registry and the computer's hard drive were cleaned of unnecessary garbage in automatic mode. Further, the system boot time was again measured, the size of the optimized registry and the volume of deleted unnecessary files were recorded. After that, the operating system was restored from the backup to its current state and the same actions were performed with the next program.

The system boot time, for the purity of the experiment, was measured in two ways. In the first case, the counter built into Windows 7 was used, located in the event log, which can be found along the following path: “Control Panel -> System -> Performance Counters and Tools -> Additional Tools -> View performance information in the event log”. In the second case, the time was fixed by a special BootRacer utility.

At the end of testing, all indicators were summarized in several charts, on which we can see the results of our contestants and determine the winner.

TEST RESULTS

Operating system boot time

First of all, let's look at how the boot time of the operating system has changed after the optimization of the system registry by the tested programs.

The first chart shows the boot time of the OS, which was measured by our own Windows tools, which can be viewed in the system event log. Red is the time shown before system optimization, green is the fastest boot.

At the same time, time Windows startup measured using a special utility BootRacer.

In the first case, the best result was demonstrated by the system that was optimized by CCleaner. At the same time, time Windows boot decreased by 11 seconds, which can be called a very good result. Quite a bit behind TweakNow RegCleaner and Reg Organaizer.

As you can see from the second diagram, the time recorded by BootRacer is somewhat different from the previous results. Here, the jv16 PowerTools application takes the lead, improving load rates by 11 seconds as well. The second place went to Auslogic Registry Cleaner, and the third place was again taken by Reg Organizer.

In order to get a more unambiguous result, it was decided to average the download times obtained.

As a result, Reg Organizer becomes the winner, which is not surprising, since it was this application that showed the most stable result in both cases of measuring time. It was followed by Auslogic Registry Cleaner and TweakNow RegCleaner by a fraction of a second. The worst average is Free Registry Cleaner.

Registry Size

Before testing, we had assumptions that after cleaning, the size of the registry may change significantly. But in practice, everything turned out differently. The size of the unoptimized registry in our case was 64.2 MB, and the optimized 61.52 MB. Thus, the maximum value of deleted data from the registry was 2.68 MB, which is only 4% of its total volume.

The leader in this dispute was CCleaner, the second place went to Wise Registry Cleaner, and the third to Reg Organizer.

Freed up disk space

Not all programs that took part in our testing have the function of cleaning the hard drive from temporary or unnecessary files. However, in cases where it was possible, we recorded the amount of freed space after garbage collection.

As can be seen from the chart, three members of this review were unable to participate in this trial. Of those who did participate, CCleaner had the best result, followed by TweakNow RegCleaner by 400 MB. The third place, already traditionally, belongs to Reg Organizer.

EVALUATION OF USEFULNESS OF USING TESTED PROGRAMS

Now, after the end of the tests, let's first try to answer the question: "Are there many benefits from programs of this class and should they be used on your computer at all?"

The average system load has improved by almost 9 seconds compared to the original result, which is really good. But here's the bad luck, having spent an elementary defragmentation of the hard disk using regular Windows tools, we managed to achieve almost the same result as in the case of its optimization using special programs. Why did this happen?

In the test results, we saw that the size of the registry after optimization did not change much, which means that the system boot time in our case did not particularly depend on its size. Perhaps it was the large fragmentation of the registry files that caused the increased PC boot time. For those who do not understand, let me explain. The file that contains Windows registry, is stored on the hard disk in pieces, and not as a whole. And these pieces on the surface of the hard drive can be located quite far from each other, which slows down the reading time of the file as a whole. When defragmenting, parts of one file are brought together, and due to the fact that the read heads of the hard disk have to move less in space, the file reading time is reduced and the system boots faster.

Clearing the hard drive from all sorts of "unnecessary" or temporary files, oddly enough, is not always beneficial. For example, after this procedure, you may lose passwords remembered by browsers, the history of web pages you visit, data caching files, which in some cases speed up the process of launching programs or searching for the necessary information on your computer.

Still, the usefulness of this type of program should not be underestimated. Despite the fact that many of the actions that they offer, you can do without their help with regular system tools, friendly user interface, remembering the state of Windows before optimization and various hints will help you avoid critical errors. Plus, all these utilities work quite quickly and allow you to assess the health of the system and suggest treatment options in a matter of minutes.

In our opinion, it is most effective to use system cleaners only as an aid to keeping your Windows in optimal condition. In order not to be unfounded, let's give an example.

One of the most common reasons slow work your system and its startup are applications that are registered in Windows startup. Before cleaning the registry, check how many programs are automatically loaded with it.

For this in command line, which is called by the keyboard shortcut Win + R, type "msconfig" and press Enter. In the window that opens, click on the "Startup" tab. Most likely, a fairly impressive list of programs will be found there. For the experiment, disable them all (the "Disable all" button) and restart your computer. We think that already at this stage, the result will please you.

Delete everything unnecessary programs from the system, or at least remove them from startup, leaving there only the most necessary software that you use very often (for example, antivirus). Then optimize the registry using special utilities. Lastly, you can clear system disk from unnecessary files and defragment it.

After all these procedures, most likely your system will start to work much faster and more responsive.

CONCLUSION

Well, now, let's return to the tested programs and summarize our review.

It is rather difficult to name a clear winner here, and yet I would like to mention several contestants who left positive impressions of their work.

We'll start with domestic development- Reg Organizer, which showed the most stable results throughout all tests. Friendly user interface and rich functionality, already quite for a long time, allow, this utility is in the lead among programs of this class. The only shortcomings include the lack of editing the startup menu of the system. Yes, and its paid (500 rubles) can scare away many users.

CCleaner has been one of the most popular programs aimed at optimizing the system registry for many years. At the same time, being free, the application has a clear and concise modern user interface, good functionality and a qualitative algorithm for finding problems.

And finally, TweakNow RegCleaner. Good optimization results, additional features system settings and a modern user interface are conducive to using this product as a cleaner of unnecessary garbage from the OS. But the cost of almost $ 25 and the lack of a Russian language make you think about the advisability of buying this application against the background of other equally worthy solutions in this area.

Pretty good, a small Auslogic Registry Cleaner utility has proven itself, but poor functionality allows us to recommend it only when you only need to clean the registry from unnecessary entries.

Wise Registry Cleaner and Free Registry Cleaner were unattractive GUI, and the latter, and completely weak results.

The remaining Vit Registry Fix and jv16 PowerTools, despite what they have in their arsenal Beautiful design and rich declared opportunities, in fact, did not show anything outstanding. At the same time, the results of Vit Registry Fix can be called one of the weakest among the contestants.

In conclusion, I would like to say that, no matter which assistant you choose to maintain a healthy state of the system, first of all, you should not forget about elementary safety net. After all, programmers, like other people, make mistakes. And this means that after using such programs, there is always a chance to get a system crash due to an incorrect remote registry setting. To avoid such unpleasantness, before making any changes, try to make backup copies of the registry, with the help of which, if necessary, it will be possible to correct possible unfortunate consequences.

One of the most important points of optimizing the operating system Windows families is to clean the system registry. Ask from what it is possible to clear such section of OS? But as it turns out in practice, from a lot ...

Let's start with the fact that when installing programs, many entries are made to the system registry (these are program settings, location, etc.), and when uninstalling a program, not all entries associated with the program being removed are cleared during the uninstallation process

  • Uninstallation is the process of removing a program without the possibility of recovery, during this process all information about the product being removed is deleted. Usually, the built-in uninstaller (like Uninstall.exe) is used to uninstall

After that, entries remain that make it difficult for the system to access the requested applications. Also, the system registry can eventually adopt changes from the system, this problem has nothing to do with the user's activities.

Since the system registry reflects all changes to the system and software, it is most dependent on cleaning to maintain stable operation.

  • Windows Registry (English Windows Registry), or system registry - a hierarchically built database of parameters and settings in most operating systems Microsoft Windows. The registry contains information and settings for hardware, software, user profiles, presets. Most of the changes in the Control Panel, file associations, system policies, the list of installed software are fixed in the registry. The Windows Registry was introduced to organize information that was previously stored in many INI files, provide a single mechanism (API) for writing and reading settings and getting rid of the problems of short names, lack of access rights and slow access to ini files stored on file system|FAT16, which had serious problems performance when searching for files in directories with a large number of them. Over time (finally - with the advent of NTFS), the problems solved by the registry disappeared, but the registry remained due to backward compatibility, and is present in all Windows versions, including the last one. Since there is currently no real prerequisite for using such a mechanism, Microsoft Windows is the only operating system (other than ReactOS) in use today that uses the operating system's registry mechanism. (Material from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Windows does not provide any means to clean up this component of the operating system. The only thing OS developers offer is the registry editor - Regedit

  • Regedit is a registry editor built into the operating system that has all the required functions for making changes to entries. It is a window divided into two parts, the left one contains registry keys, and the right one contains entries and values. To call this editor in the "Run" window (Win + R), enter the inscription: regedit

To find and fix problematic registry values, there are special utilities– programs for optimizing the operating system. They perform scanning and automatic repair of damages in the system.

One of these programs is . This multi tool OS optimization. Russified interface, convenient control And free use do for personal purposes this program irreplaceable assistant.

  1. To clean up the system registry, install CCleaner to your computer. Run the program - in any way available to you. In the main window on the left side, click the "Registry" button
  2. After that, you can select sections and problems that the program should scan.
  3. Click the button at the bottom of the "Search for Issues" window
  4. Wait for the search process to finish.
  5. After that, the "Fix" button will become active - click!
  6. You will be prompted to save a backup of the registry for restoration.
  7. Click the "Yes" button to agree to the creation given file, you can specify any location for saving or use the default location - "Documents"
  8. Click the Save button.
  9. After a window will be displayed to start fixing, select the "Fix marked" button
  10. Wait for the execution process to finish.
  11. Then click the Close button.

All! The system registry has been cleaned. You will return at the end to the main window, which can already be closed.

As you know, Windows 7 received more significant improvements in boot time and system response compared to its predecessor Windows Vista. Significant changes were made that allowed the system not to consume all system memory at opening a large number Explorer windows, system services and processes are optimized.

In this article, we will look at:

  • start menu optimization
  • hard disk optimization in Windows 7
  • Optimizing the speed of copying and moving files in Windows 7
  • optimization of work with Windows drivers 7
  • Windows 7 boot time optimization
  • speed up the process of viewing thumbnails of images
  • acceleration completion Windows work 7
Attention!
Please note that some of the considered methods for speeding up work Windows 7 are based on disabling some kind of tasks, simplifying or improving the functionality of the system for more convenient use. Those. you are essentially choosing between convenience and performance.

Ways to optimize Windows 7

1. Speed up the start menu.

Identifying recently installed programs and highlighting these newly installed programs takes the system some time each time the start menu is opened. You can save this time.

To do this, you need to go to the start menu settings: in properties "Taskbar and Start Menu"(to activate go to the control panel Windows 7: Start -> Control Panel). Go to bookmark "Start Menu" and click on the button "Tune".
Figure 1. Start menu customization

Uncheck "Highlight recently installed programs", then press "Apply".
Figure 2. Disabling highlighting of recently installed programs
In order to reduce the pause, when the start menu window appears, go to the registry editor (command "regedit" in dialogue "Find programs and files").
Figure 3. Launching the Registry Editor
After starting the registry editor ( regedit.exe) go to branch HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Control Panel -> Desktop(Fig. 4).

Figure 4. Selecting the required registry branch
Change key value MenuShowDelay With "400" on "50". The pause will be significantly reduced.

2. Optimizing hard disk performance in Windows 7

This option has been known since Windows XP, but if in XP it was originally included, then in Windows 7 optimization hard drives considered redundant and is disabled by default. Now we will look at the method of enabling this option.

We go to Start -> Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Disk Drives -> (choose your hard drive) -> Properties -> Policy... and put a tick in front of the item "Disable Cache Buffer Flushing Windows records for this device".
Figure 6. Disabling Windows Write Cache Buffer Flushing
Now in the same "Device Manager" open another thread "IDE ATA / ATAPI controllers (IDE ATA / ATAPI Controllers)", then in the properties of all channels ATA (ATA Channel 0, ATA Channel 1 etc.) in the tab "Advanced Settings" check if the checkbox is checked "Enable / Enable DMA (Enable DMA)".
Figure 7. Enabling DMA mode
If the checkbox is not checked, check it.

3. Speed up copying and moving files in Windows 7

Windows 7 received another interesting feature - remote differential compression.
On the one hand, this option calculates and transmits the difference between two objects, minimizing the amount of data transferred, but on the other hand, it takes time to calculate.

You can disable this feature. To do this, go to Start -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Enable or disable Windows components-> Remote differential compression (need to uncheck).

Figure 8. Disabling differential compression
4. Disable verification digital signature drivers

This action can also slightly increase the speed of the system (when installing new drivers). To disable this option in Windows 7 do the following:

Follow in "Start" gpedit.msc.
Figure 9. Launching the administration panel
Then navigate to the following path:

User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Driver Installation -> Digitally Sign Device Drivers. In this window, you must select the mode "Disabled".

5. Boot up Windows 7

We can win a few more seconds, although this advice applies to those users who work on multi-core processors with Windows 7 as an operating system.
So, follow these steps:

Enter MSCONFIG in the menu search field "Start" and press the key "Enter".

In the window that opens, go to the tab and click the button "Advanced options".

Click "OK" and reboot your system to see a pretty noticeable difference in download speed Windows 7.

6. Acceleration of viewing thumbnails (thumbnails).

You can increase the thumbnail (thumbnail) viewing speed in Windows 7. To do this, you need to follow these steps:

Enter regedit(without quotes) in the menu search field "Start" and press the key "Enter".

Go to branch "HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Control Panel -> Mouse".

Figure 13. Selecting the desired registry branch to optimize the pause when displaying thumbnails
Double click on the parameter MouseHoverTime and change its value to 100 .

7. Reduce time shutdown Windows 7

Completion time Windows 7 can be markedly reduced. However, this is a rather barbaric way: we reduce the time that is given to the process to complete the program, after which the program will be terminated forcibly.

Enter regedit in the menu search field "Start" and press the key "Enter".

Go to branch HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> System -> CurrentControlSet -> Control.

Change the parameter value "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" from the meaning 12000 (12 seconds) on 2000 (2 seconds).

Figure 16. Changing the value.

One of the factors that affect the performance of the operating system is the state of the system registry. If the system began to “slow down”, it is possible that registry optimization will help fix it and speed up its work.

The system registry stores the parameters and settings of the hardware and software necessary for the correct operation of the operating system. Almost all changes made to the system when installing programs, working with the Control Panel, etc. are made to the system registry. In fact, Windows registry is a database of settings and options built on a hierarchical basis.

The system registry is divided into sections (branches). Each section contains folders that store parameters and system settings. The more changes are made to the system during operation, the more the registry grows.. Over time, erroneous parameters appear in it (for example, if some programs were removed incorrectly). In addition, the registry is prone to fragmentation, which slows down the work with the registry.

Optimizing the registry helps to streamline it and, accordingly, speed up the system. Typically, registry optimization involves several operations at once.: cleaning the registry from defective and obsolete entries, compressing and defragmenting the Windows system registry. The size of the registry is reduced, and the speed of accessing the registry is increased.

Windows has built-in registry utilities - regedit.exe and regedit32.exe. However, an inexperienced user should not use them to optimize the registry, because they are primarily focused on manual work with the registry. If you are poorly versed in the system registry, you can delete something that is not right, and this will lead to system failures. You may even have to reinstall the OS.

Therefore, it will be more efficient and safer optimization of the registry using special programs for working with the registry. Such programs automatically find existing problems in the registry and fix them, compress and . Let's take a closer look at some of these programs.

One of the most popular registry optimization software is CCleaner.. This program is distributed free of charge and is suitable for both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. If the registry optimization fails and the system starts to crash, you can always restore the registry in its original form from the REG file saved by the program.

Another registry optimization program is called Registry Life. This free registry optimization utility from Chemtable supports both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows operating systems. When you run the program, the program will scan the registry for errors and the degree of fragmentation and issue a verdict: is cleaning or optimization of the registry really required.

In the process of cleaning and fixing errors, the program finds and removes unnecessary and erroneous registry entries, compresses registry files, and then defragments them. You can set up automatic optimization, launched according to a schedule with a certain frequency.

Regular registry optimization using special programs will help speed up the system, but do not forget that other factors also affect the performance of the operating system, which must also be taken into account.
