Necessary actions on a PC or laptop

In order to distribute the Internet from the phone to the computer, a USB cable or Bluetooth connected to the computer is enough. To install an access point on a PC, you need:

Connecting the phone as a USB modem

You can distribute wifi through your phone to a PC, smartphone or other device. You can transfer the phone's Internet by making a note.

We use various programs and applications (FoxFi, PdaNet +, etc.)

You can distribute the Internet using programs, using their functionality and capabilities. It is possible to distribute wifi from a phone to a computer or other device through.

Most Internet users are connected to the network using a cable brought into the room by the provider. Such a connection is quite convenient - connect a cable to a computer or laptop - use the Internet. But in recent years, any user could encounter a problem when buying mobile devices, digital cameras, tablets and entertainment products - all of them are equipped with a Wi-Fi module. Naturally, there is a need to connect them to the Internet. A wireless access point is required to connect all mobile devices to Wi-Fi. And many are wondering - is it possible to distribute WiFi with a laptop without spending extra Money to buy special equipment?

Several solutions

At any operating system Windows families, you can set up an access point and distribute WiFi from a laptop. XP, the old system from Windows, will not go unnoticed. Configuration is carried out in three known ways:

  1. Using the Network Control Center. This method is suitable for almost all laptops that have a modern Wi-Fi adapter installed.
  2. Installation from the command line. This method will be of interest to advanced users who are well versed in Windows operating systems. From the command line, it is convenient to configure the access point on laptops remotely, for example, by a service operator technical support users who know how to distribute WiFi from a laptop. The second option - you can write sequential commands in executable file and passing it on e-mail user, to provide remote creation and configuration of an access point on the required laptop.
  3. Using third party software. Program WiFi distribution from a laptop would be the best choice if you have problems with the first two methods.

Important points in the settings

Whatever way wifi settings is selected, the user will be prompted to enter the network name and password for the access point. The network name is set only English letters. But the password is worth paying attention to. A simple password of numbers or English words can be cracked quickly. It is better to use a complex one - mixed letters and numbers. About setting the same password as in in social networks or mailbox. You don't need to do this. At any moment, guests can come who will need to connect to the Internet, and therefore they will have to say the Wi-Fi password ... What if one of them then decides to try it on your account? Yes, for the sake of sport. And get access.

There is nothing easier

Any action Windows users start with the start button. And then point by point:

  1. Open "Control Panel" and find "Network and Sharing Center". Select "Set up a new connection or network" - "Setup wireless network computer-computer".
  2. A new window will prompt you to give a network name, set a security type, and set a password to connect to Wi-Fi. Security type should be maximum - WPA2. At the bottom this menu check the "Save settings for this network" box and click "Next".
  3. A message will appear indicating that the network is ready to use. At the bottom of this message, select "Enable general access to connect to the Internet" and after the operation is completed, click on the "Close" button.
  4. Returning to the "Network Control Center", before distributing WiFi from a laptop, you must select the "Change advanced sharing settings" item located in the upper left corner of the current window. In the new window, allow network discovery and sharing. You can connect via Wi-Fi to any device that will work freely on the Internet.

Good to Great - Using the Command Line

There will always be users who will be interested in using more complex, but no less effective way creating an access point from the command line. The execution algorithm is as follows:

  1. Run command prompt as administrator.
  2. IN command line enter the command: netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=IMYA key=PAROL, where instead of IMYA specify your own network name, and instead of PAROL write the network password.
  3. It remains to start the access point itself with the netsh wlan start hostednetwork command.
  4. Before distributing WiFi from a laptop, you need to allow access to all users to the Internet.

Problems and solutions

Not all laptops can create a Wi-Fi hotspot. First of all, this is due to the fact that the module installed in the laptop is of a very old design. Either the driver installed for the Wi-Fi module does not understand the standard Windows commands. You should not despair, because there is always a solution - you can install specialized software that will help with solving the issue. Having set a goal, how to distribute WiFi from a laptop using third party programs, you need to know that most of these programs are shareware, and a dilemma arises: find a free version, having independently figured out how it works, or use shareware, the functionality of which is limited. Alternatively, you can purchase the program, but there is no guarantee that it will be able to control the old Wi-Fi module, so you need to experiment with different programs on your own. After making sure that the utility works one hundred percent, you can make a purchase decision.

Free Idea for Latest Windows Systems

The Switch Virtual Router program captivates not only with its great functionality and excellent stability, but also with the presence of a Russified menu. Its only drawback is its incompatibility with obsolete Windows systems XP and VISTA. The program creates a wireless local area network and allows you to use office equipment by transmitting data via WiFi from a laptop. Even a beginner will understand the friendly interface of the program. After installing and running the program, it is proposed to fill in only two fields - give the network name and enter the password twice. By pressing the "Start" button, you can safely connect devices via WiFi.

Like it or not, free is captivating

Owners of the old operating system should not be upset. There is one great program, which does not care what system to work with, and the functionality and ease of management are not inferior to the previous program. It will be a nice bonus automatic creation wireless network when the laptop is turned on. Its name is MyPublicWiFi and it is also free. There is only one drawback - the program is not Russified - without knowledge in English additional settings will be problematic to master. To run the program, you will need administrator rights, and to configure, in addition to specifying the network name and password for it, you must select the desired connection to access the Internet from the list proposed by the program.

The best program in the world

The Connectify application has a huge functionality, unlike its competitors. And it will help to distribute WiFi from a laptop without any problems. The program is able to receive Internet even from 3G networks, but you will have to pay for it. But the developers took a step towards users and created a program that was cut down in functionality, which does not allow changing the name of the access point during configuration and working with 3G networks. On the other hand, it simplifies the setup: enter the network password and click "Start". Simply and easily.

Are penguin lovers left out?

Linux is a system for advanced users. Therefore, the algorithm of actions is presented very briefly:

  1. Install packages: sudo apt-get install hostapd libpam-radius-auth.
  2. "Wireless networks" - "Add".
  3. The name of the point is indicated in the connection name and SSID field, the mode is set to special, and mtu is set to automatic. The rest of the items can be left untouched.
  4. The method, in the Ipv4 tab, must be set to “Shared with other computers”, but you will have to experiment with the “Security” tab, apparently this is due to the type of Wi-Fi module. For starters, you can install WEP 40/128, it works on many laptops, and the key for it will be five characters long, which is quite acceptable.

conclusions

Each user decides for himself which method suits him. The main thing is to remember that the right decision can only be obtained by performing any actions. If one method doesn't work, try the next one. The result will be in any case. Before distributing WiFi through a laptop, you need to make sure that the module is physically installed in it and that it is fully functional. To do this, you need to go online using a laptop via WiFi in any convenient place - an Internet cafe, with friends or contact specialists at service center. And only after making sure that the equipment is installed and able to work, proceed to setting up the distribution. Otherwise, you can lose a lot of time, swearing at the inoperability of programs.

Connect your phone, tablet or other device to high speed internet, brought to the house, you can easily through a Wi-Fi router (router). However, such a device is not always at hand (for example, you went to the country, taking a laptop and a wireless USB modem with you). IN similar cases you can use the Internet on a mobile gadget through a laptop, assigning the functions of a router to it. Consider how to make a laptop a Wifi hotspot.

Ways to create a wireless access point

Any modern laptop is equipped with a wireless adapter that can be used as a Wi-Fi router. To do this, you need to create a kind of virtual bridge that connects network equipment (Wi-Fi adapter and network card).

To get such routing, you can use the following tools:

  • standard means of Windows OS ( graphics application"Network Control Center ...", command line or bat-file);
  • additional software.

Whichever method is chosen, the following conditions must be met:

Creating a Wireless Access Point Using the Windows Menu

The easiest way to create a virtual router is to use the "Network Control Center ..." function built into the OS. For this you need:

After the virtual router has been created, in order to successfully use the Internet through it, you may additionally need to enable public access. This is done as follows:

After all the steps are completed, turn on Wi-Fi on your mobile gadget and start the search available networks. In the drop-down list, select the name of the network that was specified when creating the virtual wifi router a, and specify the given key.

Creating wifi access via command line

To connect your phone to the Internet through a laptop, that is, using a virtual router, you can also use the command line. This procedure may seem complicated to an inexperienced user, however, following the instructions exactly, you will be able to turn on the Wi-Fi point in just a few minutes.

To start distributing wifi from laptop to phone, you need:

To distribute the Internet via a laptop to a phone or other device, you need to enable sharing to the newly created Wi-Fi point. To do this, go to the "Network Connections" section and call the properties of the network through which the Internet is connected to the laptop. After that, in the "Advanced" tab, put a "bird" in front of the corresponding item, and in the drop-down list, select the name of the created virtual router.

Using a bat file

Creating a Wi-Fi access point through the command line is inconvenient because every time you turn off the PC, you need to write all the commands again. Therefore, this method of transformation laptop in the router can only be used for a one-time Internet connection to the phone.

The execution of the above commands can be fully automated. To do this, it is required in the standard text editor Windows prescribe a small script, and then save the document on the laptop desktop under any name in the .bat format. To start distributing Wi-Fi using a virtual router on your phone, you just need to run this document with administrator rights. An example script is shown in the figure, where YourSSID and YourPassword are the name of the wireless connection and the access key to it.

Creating a virtual router through additional software

If none of the above methods helped activate the distribution of the Internet to your phone, you can try creating a virtual Wi-Fi router using special software. There are a lot of such utilities on the network, but among them the most convenient are:

  • MyPublic WiFi;
  • connectify.

Sharing Wi-Fi with MyPublicWiFi

This application is absolutely free and has a user-friendly interface, although in a foreign language. With it, you can make a Wi-Fi hotspot with just a few clicks:

Creating a Wi-Fi Hotspot with Connectify

The MyPublicWiFi utility may experience problems if the Internet is not connected to the laptop via a cable, but via a USB modem. In this case, it is better to use the Connectify app. There is a paid and free version this program. For occasional use, the second option is sufficient. To enable Wi-Fi distribution from PC to phone using Connectify, you need to:

Possible difficulties when creating a Wi-Fi hotspot

When creating a new Wi-Fi access point, users often encounter minor difficulties. The table shows the most common problems that can prevent you from distributing the Internet from a laptop, and possible ways their decisions.

The essence of the problemThe reason behind itPossible Solution
The phone can't locate wifi network although it is runningBlocking the connection with an installed antivirus or firewallTemporarily disable your firewall or antivirus program

The connection is being blocked by a firewall or antivirus.Temporarily disable online protection
The message "Failed to start the network" pops upDisabled on laptop wireless adapter Turn on Wi-Fi in your laptop settings
Adapter drivers not working properlyUpdate the drivers using the disk that came with the PC or the Internet

As you know, the "classic" way to create a wireless access point is to connect an additional network equipment- a router that will be a kind of link between all nodes local network.

By the way, the hardware way to create a WiFi zone is the only right solution when setting up a more or less serious local network: it provides a stable long-term connection of any mobile devices, and also supports many additional functions.

And in this article we will analyze how to make a laptop distribute Wi-Fi without a router, and what Windows setup 7 is required to connect to the internet.

As a rule, the need to distribute wifi from a laptop arises when connected to world wide web via a USB modem or work with wireless peripherals (etc.).

However, not every modern laptop is capable of such a network feat: given function directly depends on the possibilities network card your PC.

Finding out if a laptop can distribute wifi without a router is easiest using the "Command Line". To do this, go to "Start" -\u003e "Run" -\u003e "cmd", in the window that opens, enter the netsh wlan show drivers command and press the "Enter" key (for Windows XP / Windows 7).

If the system gives you the message "Autoconfiguration service is not running", then this PC does not have the necessary wifi connection module.

If the command "passes" without errors, then find the line "Hosted Network Support", which characterizes the ability of your laptop to distribute wifi.

If “Yes” is indicated here, you can safely proceed with further configuration of your laptop;

Otherwise, update the network card driver to the latest version (it is recommended to download the software only on the official website of the manufacturer) and check the capabilities again network adapter via command line. If the result remains unsatisfactory, then you will not be able to distribute the Internet from a laptop.

How to make a laptop distribute wi-fi?

If everything is in order with the adapter, and the hardware capabilities of this PC allow you to create a wireless access point based on a computer, then you can force the laptop to distribute wifi in three different ways:

  • - through the "Network and Sharing Center";
  • - using the command line;
  • - using special software (via the Connectify program, etc.)

In this article, we will look at how to distribute wifi from a laptop without programs, i.e. with help manual setting OS windows 7.

How to distribute wired Internet from a laptop to another computer?

Most in a simple way to make the laptop distribute Wi-Fi is to create a new network through the "Control Center" on windows 7.

This method allows you to distribute wifi from a laptop only to other computers running on Windows. In other words, a simple peer-to-peer network (the so-called ad-hoc mode) is being created, and you will not be able to “share” the Internet on an android using it.

So, to distribute wifi without a router through a laptop:

1. Go through the menu "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "Network and Internet" in the subsection "Network and Sharing Center".

2. Select "Set up a new connection or network" in the main window.

3. In the window that opens, select "Setting up a computer-to-computer wireless network", click "Next" and again "Next" (in the information section).

4. In the next window, enter the settings for the new local network:

  • - Network name (SSID) - name wifi hotspots access, which will be reflected in the "search available connections» other computers;
  • - Security type - select the "standard" option WPA2-Personal;
  • - Security key - a unique password for connecting to the local network.

5. In the new window, click "Turn on Internet Connection Sharing" and close the wireless setup wizard.

Now the laptop is able to distribute the Internet and exchange information with other computers. To connect to wifi on a third-party PC, just go to the "Network Control Center", select the desired access point by SSID and enter the installed authentication data.

Unfortunately, this is far from a universal method, since in most cases it is required to distribute Wi-Fi from a laptop to various android devices(in order to save mobile traffic) or connect to peripheral functional nodes ( network printer etc.).

How to distribute wi-fi through a laptop on android?

In addition to the above method, you can distribute wifi from a laptop using the command line. The advantage of such a connection is that you can distribute the Internet without being tied to the operating system of the receiving device: to a tablet, phone, etc.

However, when the laptop is rebooted (or “falls asleep”), such an access point stops working, and for the network to work, you either need to regularly maintain the PC in operating mode, or after rebooting, re-carry out all the steps for setting up the local network.

So, in order for a laptop with Windows OS to distribute Wi-Fi, you need to:

Through "Start" -\u003e "All Programs" -\u003e "Accessories" go to the command line in administrator mode.

Write the command here:

netsh WLAN set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid="your network name" key="password"

(e.g. netsh WLAN set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid="setka" key="horowiikluch")

to create a new wireless access point.

Enable the created network using the command: netsh wlan start hostednetwork

(If this operation is successful, a system message will appear: "Hosted network started")

Grant all devices on the network the right to access the Internet. To do this, go to "Control Panel" -> "Network and Internet" -> "Network and Sharing Center" -> "Change adapter settings", click once right click mouse by label active connection to the Internet and select the "Properties" menu item.

In the window that opens:

Go to the "Access" tab;

Set the marker opposite "Allow other network users to use the Internet connection";

Select in the column "Connection home network» the new connection you created;

After following this instruction, on all computers in the wifi range of your laptop, when “Searching for available wireless connections”, a new access point with the SSID you specified will appear.

In order for the laptop to automatically distribute Wi-Fi over this local network after a reboot, you can autoload the command line. For this in text document save the netsh wlan start hostednetwork command, change the file extension to .bat and copy it to the Windows7(Windows8) startup folder.

Today we’ll talk about how to distribute the Internet via Wi-Fi from a laptop or from a computer that has an appropriate wireless adapter. Why might this be needed? For example, you have purchased a tablet or phone and would like to access the Internet from it at home without purchasing a router. In this case, you can distribute Wi-Fi from a laptop that is connected to the network both wired and wirelessly. Let's see how to do it. In this case, we will immediately consider three ways to make a laptop a router. Methods for distributing Wi-Fi from a laptop are considered for Windows 7, Windows 8, they are also suitable for Windows 10. If you prefer non-standard ones, or do not like to install additional programs, you can immediately go to the method in which the implementation of Wi-Fi distribution will be organized using the Windows command line.

I wrote about free program for distributing the Internet from a MyPublicWiFi laptop in another article (), where she collected positive reviews: many of the users who failed to launch a virtual router on a laptop using other utilities succeeded with this program. (The program works in Windows 7, 8 and Windows 10). An additional advantage of this software is the absence of installation of any additional unwanted elements on the computer.

After installing the application, the computer will need to be restarted, and the launch is performed on behalf of the Administrator. After starting, you will see the main window of the program, in which you should set the SSID network name, the connection password, consisting of at least 8 characters, and also note which of the Internet connections should be distributed via Wi-Fi. After that, it remains to click "Set up and Start Hotspot" to start the access point on the laptop.

Also, on other tabs of the program, you can view who is connected to the network or set restrictions on the use of traffic-intensive services.

You can download MyPublicWiFi for free from the official website http://www.mypublicwifi.com/publicwifi/en/index.html

Sharing Internet over Wi-Fi using Connectify Hotspot

The Connectify program, designed for distributing Wi-Fi from a laptop or computer, often works correctly on those computers with Windows 10, 8 and Windows 7 where other methods of distributing the Internet do not work, and it does this for the most different types connections, including PPPoE, 3G/LTE modems, etc. Both a free version of the program and paid versions of Connectify Hotspot Pro and Max with advanced features are available (mode wired router, repeater, etc.).

Among other things, the program can track device traffic, block ads, automatically start distribution when you log into Windows, and more. Details about the program, its functions and where to download it in a separate article.

How to share Internet over Wi-Fi using the Windows command line

Well, the penultimate method in which we will organize distribution over Wi-Fi without using additional free or paid programs. So, a way for geeks. Tested on Windows 8 and Windows 7 (for Windows 7 there is a variation of the same method, but without the command line, which is described below), it is not known whether it will work on Windows XP.

Press Win + R and type ncpa.cpl, press Enter.

When will the list open? network connections, right click on wireless connection and select "Properties"

Switch to the "Access" tab, check the box next to "Allow other network users to use the Internet connection this computer”, then - “OK”.

Run command prompt as administrator. In Windows 8 - press Win + X and select "Command Prompt (Admin)", and in Windows 7 - find the command prompt in the Start menu, right-click and select "Run as administrator".

Execute the command netsh wlan show drivers and see what it says about hosted network support. If it is supported, then you can continue. If not, then most likely you have not installed the original driver for the Wi-Fi adapter (install from the manufacturer's website), or a really very old device.

The first command that we need to enter in order to make a router out of a laptop looks like this (you can change the SSID to your network name, and also set your password, in the example below the password is ParolNaWiFi):

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=site key=ParolNaWiFi

After entering the command, you should see confirmation that all operations have been completed: wireless access is allowed, the SSID name has been changed, the wireless network key has also been changed. Enter the following command

netsh wlan start hostednetwork

After this input, you should see a message stating that "Hosted network is running". And the last command that you may need and which is useful in order to find out the status of your wireless network, the number of connected clients or the Wi-Fi channel:

netsh wlan show hostednetwork

Ready. Now you can connect via Wi-Fi to your laptop, enter the specified password and use the Internet. To stop distribution, use the command

netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

Unfortunately, when using this method Internet distribution over Wi-Fi stops after each restart of the laptop. One solution is to create bat file with all the commands in order (one command per line) and either add it to startup or run it on its own when necessary.

Using a computer-to-computer (Ad-hoc) network to distribute the Internet via Wi-Fi from a laptop in Windows 7 without programs

In Windows 7, the method described above can be implemented without resorting to the command line, and it is quite simple. To do this, go to the network and sharing center (you can through the control panel or by clicking on the connection icon in the notification area), and then click "Set up a new connection or network."

Select the option "Set up a computer-to-computer wireless network" and click "Next".

In the next step, you will need to set the SSID, security type, and security key (Wi-Fi password). To avoid having to set up Wi-Fi distribution again each time, check the "Save settings for this network" checkbox. After clicking the "Next" button, the network will be configured, Wi-Fi will turn off if it was connected, and instead it will wait for other devices to connect to this laptop (that is, from now on you can find the created network and connect to it).

In order for the Internet to be available when you connect, you will need to share Internet access. To do this, go to the Network and Sharing Center again, and select "Change adapter settings" in the menu on the left.

Select your Internet connection (important: you must select exactly the connection that directly serves to access the Internet), right-click on it, click "Properties". After that, on the "Access" tab, check the box "Allow other network users to use this computer's Internet connection" - that's all, now you can connect to Wi-Fi on your laptop and use the Internet.

Note: in my tests, for some reason, only another laptop with Windows 7 saw the created access point, although according to reviews, phones and tablets work for many.

Typical problems when distributing Wi-Fi from a laptop

In this section, I will briefly describe the errors and problems that users are experiencing, judging by the comments, as well as the most likely ways to solve them:

  • The program writes that it was not possible to start the virtual router or virtual wifi router, or you receive a message that given type network is not supported - update the drivers for the laptop's Wi-Fi adapter, and not through Windows, but from the official website of your device manufacturer.
  • The tablet or phone connects to the created access point, but without Internet access - check that you are distributing exactly the connection through which the laptop has access to the Internet. Also, a common cause of the problem is that the general access to the Internet is blocked by the antivirus or firewall (firewall) by default - check this option.

It seems that I have not forgotten anything of the most important and frequently encountered problems.

This concludes this guide. I hope it will be useful. There are other ways to distribute Wi-Fi from a laptop or computer and other programs designed for these purposes, but I think the methods described will be enough.
