Windows. Viruses. Notebooks. Internet. office. Utilities. Drivers

Today, I would like to slightly expand the list of articles devoted to
virus removal and write about a virus removal scanner like Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool (hereinafter referred to as KVRT). It is something in between AVZ and Dr.Web CureIT, but closer to CureIT, since in AVZ there are many more useful powerful additional features than a virus scanner. KVRT is not designed to continuously protect your computer, and besides, it does not have the " Base Updates” and is intended exclusively for one-time scans.

About Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool.

Like most programs that I use myself and recommend to you on this site, the utility KVRT completely free and supports ( which is important for most users) Russian language.
Download from this link.

After downloading, you need to install the program and run it.

After we launched, we will see in front of us on the monitor such a window:

Here you will need to check off everything that we would like to check (mail, disks, etc.), and we will also be able to set the required security level. To do this, first click on the button Recommended« (as in the screenshot) and select " Setting". There we install everything as in the screenshots:

Window " Scope of Action«.
File types: All files
Check optimization: check the box " Skip files if their scan takes longer than” and set 60 sec.
We also install everything 4 checkboxes in the subsection " Checking Compound Files«.

Window " Additionally«.
Where are the verification methods: set all the checkboxes, and drag the slider onto the scale " Deep«.
Next, set all the checkboxes except " I agree to participate...«.

Next click OK and opposite the inscription " Threat response” click on “ Request action” and select the item “ Perform an action” and set, if not set, two checkboxes. The result will be something like this:

At the end just press the button Run check” and wait for the scan to finish. Next, according to the results of the scan, we look at the report, then click " Exit” and agreeing to remove the program after the removal is completed, we restart the computer.

Afterword.

In fact KVRT it is more useful to use as an alternative in those situations in which it cannot cope AVZ or Dr.web.

Even more efficient and useful if AVZ use in conjunction with Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool.

Good day, my beloved readers. Glad to see you again on this site;)

Surely you remember and, I hope, use periodically, my article about the wonderful AVZ anti-virus utility, which was called "", as well as the wonderful free virus removal utility called Dr.Web CureIT, which I wrote about in the article "".

Today I want to slightly expand the virus removal cycle on the fly (that is, with the help of utilities, and not installing a full-fledged 100% antivirus with protection modules, etc.), and therefore I decided to write about another, so to speak, virus cleaning scanner under, probably known to many of you by the name Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool. This miracle of programmer's thought is something between Dr.Web CureIT and AVZ, closer to CureIT, because AVZ has much more useful powerful functions than just a virus scanner. Tobish Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool is not intended for permanent computer protection, does not have the "Update Databases" function and is generally intended for one-time scans in every possible way.

But enough ranting, let's get started.

Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool and how to remove viruses with it

And so, of course, the utility is completely free (like almost everything I write about on this site) and supports the Russian language.
You can download, for example, or directly from my site.

Installation is extremely simple and I will not dwell on it.
The use is also not particularly difficult, namely:

After starting the program, we will see the following window:

Here we need to check off everything that we want to check (disks, mail, etc.), as well as set the security level we need. To do this, click on the button " Recommended"(See screenshot above) and select" Settings". Next, we expose everything as in the screenshots, namely:

Tab " Scope of Action".
File types: All files
Check optimization: check the box " Skip files if their scan takes longer than"and set 60 sec.
Mark 4 checkboxes in the subsection " Checking Compound Files".

Tab "Additional".
Check methods: all checkboxes, slider on the "Deep" scale.
Next, check all the checkboxes except for the "Feedback" item.

Click OK and click opposite the inscription " Threat response"on the inscription" Request action". Here we select the item" Perform an action" and mark, if not checked, two checkboxes. It should end up like this:

Well, then just click on the button " Run check"And we are waiting for the end of the scan. According to the results of this, we look at the report and press the button" Exit". After this, you must agree to and restart the computer.

Where to buy a license for Kaspersky Antivirus

If you decide to purchase full version programs (meaning the entire antivirus, and not the one mentioned in the article free version for cleaning), it is recommended to do this not in retail stores (which not only make a significant markup, but also add to the final price the cost of the box with the program, its delivery to the store, the cost of renting the store and other "logistics"), but in the Internet stores that:

  • Firstly, it is cheaper (not only for the reasons mentioned above, but also because the software is purchased/sold in bulk);
  • Secondly, it’s convenient, because you don’t have to go anywhere and you can pay even with a credit card, even with a text message from your phone;
  • Thirdly, it is quite safe, because the license can be checked and activated immediately (quick delivery of keys to Email), which cannot be done in an offline store.

For my part, I would recommend, simply because the place is proven (in any case, it still buys software for home / offices there) and has existed on the software market since 2004. In general, you can read any marketing on the Internet or on the store's website - it's my business to recommend.

By the way, if suddenly, for some reason, you know a software store is cheaper (and most importantly, better!), Then contact through, the team and I will consider your option .. and may offer readers in this text. Thank you!

Afterword

Here are the things.
In fact, Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool can be extremely useful in some situations, and therefore I recommend using it as an alternative if Dr.web suddenly fails.

On the other hand, I repeat that AVZ has many useful tools to restore and protect the system after virus attacks or in general in case of failures, and therefore I would not recommend forgetting about AVZ and using it in conjunction with Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool.

If you have any questions, then ask - I will be happy to help and suggest.

PS: Other articles and notes on fighting viruses can now always be found under the "virus removal" tag.

A powerful virus removal application that has shown excellent malware detection rates in tests. Today we are going to look at another product with almost the same features and specifications.

The developer Kaspersky Lab is known for delivering superior antivirus solutions for home and business use, whose programs have been well received by security professionals and analysts, as well as by consumers. High results in independent tests show complex antivirus Kaspesky Internet Security 2015 and base solution Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2015.

Compared to these two programs, Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool is more lightweight antivirus package, which does not have a real-time protection module and additional security utilities designed to protect Email, web protection, identity theft prevention, etc. The program is best used to re-scan malware on a PC after running the main antivirus on the system to make sure that they are not left unturned.

Installation and interface

The installation procedure is carried out almost completely automatically - with minimal user intervention. The program uses a clear interface that allows users to quickly, with one click, launch an automatic scanner using the default settings. Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool scans the folders where it usually hides on the computer malware, namely, system memory, startup hidden objects, and disk boot sectors.

In addition, users can choose manual mode decontamination in order to collect information about operating system(for example, about installed programs and drivers). It is stored in archives that can be sent to Kaspersky laboratory for further research. Power Users can create and run scripts.

Customizable Scan Options

Users who are not satisfied with the default configuration can exclude any locations from the scan area and include personal documents and emails, whole HDD or just local directories as well as network locations, optical discs and removable media. Folders of your choice can also be included, with or without subfolders.

Setting the scan area

It is also possible to increase or decrease the security level, which will be appropriate either in conditions of minimal PC performance or with a significant degree of infection, and you can also configure Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool to automatic deletion, to disable or delete if neutralization is not possible (the default is to prompt the user for permission). The program has a built-in self-defense module, which, in fact, protects it from any hijackers trying to change the settings and disarm it in order to gain control over the computer. This component can also be disabled.

Additional scan settings are related to the types of files that will be taken into account (all, by format), the contents of archives, installation packages, built-in OLE objects, mail formats and large files, as well as the level heuristic analysis, signature vulnerability scanning and rootkit scanning.

View details of the scanning process

During the scan, users can find out the duration of the operation, the total number of scanned objects, what threats were detected, the path to the scanned this moment file and observe the execution progress by the indicator. When any suspicious or infected files are found, the program displays messages in the system notification area, while giving users the opportunity to see additional data, as well as take action if threats are found, such as deleting, skipping, or quarantine items to isolate.

All program actions are recorded in a log file. Thus, users can find out more information about all scanned objects and removed threats, such as the path to each file. Reports for automatic scanning and manual disinfection can be viewed separately.

Performance test results

Initially, Sodtpedia was going to test the program in Windows 8.1 Pro. However, error messages appeared literally from scratch, and repeatedly everything ended in a crash of the program, which is why we were not able to conduct a full scan. So instead, the capabilities of Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool were tested on Windows 7.

The test car was - Intel Core 2 Duo 6420 @CPU 2.13 GHz with 4 GB RAM and running under Windows control 7 professional. The scan target was a 590 MB folder containing 2,000 virus sample files (the same files as in the case of McAfee Labs Stinger). In the custom scan settings, I selected to scan only the test folder with threats, and also to have the application automatically delete infected files. The security level was left at the default.

After a very long period of time (3 hours and 11 seconds), Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool finally completed the scanning process. She identified and removed 1986 infected files out of 2000, leaving 14 files. It means that virus detection rate was 99.3%.

CPU usage was low, but RAM consumption was significant.

McAfee Labs Stinger review:

Advantages

The program is compatible with all popular Windows versions- XP to 8 or 8.1 (both 32 and 64 bit types). It makes it very easy to start the scanning process, regardless of the user's experience with virus removal programs.

Despite this, it is possible to adjust the settings regarding the scan area, sensitivity, actions when a threat is detected, and the program's self-protection.

The virus detection rate in the Sodtppedia test was excellent.

All program actions can be viewed in log files.

The program has been translated into many languages.

It is free to use.

Flaws

As previously mentioned in the performance test results section, testers ran into problems several times when trying to scan on Windows 8.1 Pro. The application often showed error messages and crashed.

The estimated time until the completion of the scanning process was not accurate.

During the scan, RAM consumption was significant.

In this test, the scan was very slow.

Overall score

If you have not encountered a situation where your computer is heavily infected with malware software, then Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool, thanks to its amazing level of virus detection, is well suited for performing scans from time to time. Otherwise, you probably need to look for something faster.

Viruses are waiting for us in the archives with e-books, hide in “useful” software and on the pages of dubious resources. To combat threats, I use a reliable team: antivirus for real-time protection and free curing utilities for additional scanning. A month ago I decided to "change" the usual Dr. Web cure! and test what the curing utility of Kaspersky is capable of. We open the article: you will learn how to download and use the Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool and, most importantly: will it suit you?

Benefits of the Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool

  • Allows you to check your computer for viruses for free;
  • Lightweight, does not load the system and can work in the background;
  • Does not cause a software conflict with a permanent antivirus;
  • Makes a deeper scan compared to other curing utilities.

Disadvantages of Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool

  • Compared to Dr. Web cure! verification takes longer;
  • Each time the program ends, Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool is removed from the computer. Therefore, you will lose access to quarantined threats;
  • The healing utility does not receive updates. To re-scan with a fresh database of signatures, you will have to download an updated version of the utility from the Kaspersky website;
  • Advertising Kaspersky internet security in pop-up windows.

Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool in parallel with Kaspersky Anti-Virus

The question that interested me: is there any point in installation of Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool if the main antivirus is from Kaspersky Lab? The anti-virus database is almost identical and the curing utility of Kaspersky will not detect "fresh" threats. Therefore, if your choice is Kaspersky antivirus, it is better to use curing utilities from other developers. For example, Dr. Web cure!

When does it make sense to install Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool in parallel with Kaspersky?

  • If you have not updated anti-virus databases for a long time or installed a dubious version of Kaspersky from a torrent;
  • The computer is heavily infected and you have suspicions that Kaspersky is working. The Virus Removal Tool has a high level of protection and is adapted to work on an infected PC.

How to download the curing utility of Kaspersky

  1. To download the Kaspersky cleaning utility, go to the Kaspersky Lab website, Virus Removal Tool and click "Download". Started downloading a startup file with a volume of about 160 MB;
  2. Run the setup file by double-clicking and wait for the installation to complete. Accept license agreement and click "Get Started".

How to use the Kaspersky disinfection utility

  1. The Run Test window appears. But let's take a look at the scan options. Click on the "Settings" icon:
  • On the "Scan area" tab, I advise you to check the boxes next to all drives and folders;
  • On the "Protection level" tab, leave the level "recommended". You can move the slider to the "high" position if your computer is heavily infected;
  • On the "Actions" tab, we leave the "Prompt on detection" or "free hands" box for the utility, allowing you to treat and remove threats on your own.
  • Important! If software is installed on the computer that is perceived as malicious (parsers, cheaters, keyloggers), do not allow Kaspersky to make decisions: it will most likely remove them.
  1. We save the settings and run the Automatic check.
  2. After the scan is completed, we view the list of threats and vulnerabilities on the "Reports" - "Detected Threats" tab. I am using the option in context menu"Go to description" to get information about each threat: this helps to decide whether to treat or remove.

After testing the curing utility of Kaspersky for a month, I decided to return to Dr. Web cure! In tandem with Kaspersky antivirus, it provides more security to my computer. What alternative healing utilities have you tried? Leave links or reviews in the comments.
